IV got a p38 and discovery 2 td5 both good motors cheap and easy to fix the wife runs about in the td5 and weve taken it on shorts trips to belgium not ready for longer trips there landrovers lol
There's a couple of bus drivers on here that travel around Europe in their p38's. We took ours from France to Italy, 1800mls round trip, not a problem.

Foolish very foolish lol. To be fair its not let me down or left me stranded and i do regular london to southhampton round trips.
 
As for electronic stuff..
I reckon MOST of what goes through the becm could be rewired traditionally. as in the old way!!
 
Mine is a 2000 thor and I drive it through Europe to Czech Republic at least 3 times a year.
It's only let me down once with a dead battery. Got the guy from the local bar to jump start it with his van and away we went.
 
Ah your going to use your 4×4 as a multipurpose vehicle. Any range is perfectly suited to this role TBH. It's also more biased towards off road than the germans. Good luck with your buying though once again caveat emptor but there are good l322s out there.

Every answer to my post gave negative opinions on Range Rover ownership, which I think is a shame as I think these forums should be used as a positive platform for the vehicles they represent.
That said, I appreciate your honesty.

In my case it's realism. I've owned three Classic 3.5 V8 autos made between '85 & '89 found them generally reliable, unlike a '93 (slipped liner, VCU, ABS etc.) but you need to keep on top of them. Many owners think they can maintain them on banger money & flog them when the harsh realities strike home. A browse of several reliability surveys reveal poor performance from LR (& other well known 4x4 manufactures) in proportion to their selling price. I have two shop-floor contacts within the main stealer network (both UK & Aus.) & their stories compound the stats.

I’ll look at getting another cheap 4x4.

The truth of the matter is most of us are true enthusiasts of the marque. We love them BECAUSE they are troublesome creatures not DESPITE it. Most of us (there are some here on a steep learning curve of the green oval) are not blind to their faults, when we choose to buy one, but we do not run away from them. We accept what they throw at us because of the joy they bring, when running as they should. Anyone can buy a car, Land/Range Rover owners buy into a love affair.
So when you ask us about them, it is like asking about the wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/etc. We will moan about their faults but in the same breath we will tell you, how wonderful they are and how we would never be without them.
Rather than thinking this forum is not positive about the Range Rover, look again, we are telling you, through it all, we are still here. We love them. How much more positive about the marque can we be?
I wish you luck and joy with whichever "cheap 4x4" you decide to go with. Yet, I feel sorry that you could not see what we were actually telling you :(

I could of had an L322. 4.4.

But i bought a lovely Monte carlo blue P38 instead, why??
its easier to fix!! i do my own spannering and parts wise its much cheaper than the l322.

Don't get me wrong they are nice to drive but way too complicated for me, i come from RRC and old series landrovers, so the l322's techno-wizard internals arn't my strong suit.
