Alright mate calm down! I thaught they were just standard open diffs. How do they slip when turning then? Are they just plate type lsd's?

They are open diffs. But by your reckoning all 2wd motors are really 1wd because when on slippery surface all the drive will cause 1 wheel to spin?? the whole idea of a diff is to allow both wheels to turn at differing speeds when cornering. as the outer wheel has to turn faster than the inner wheel.

detroit locker or similar, road car LSD and rear wheel drive fun

Ahh yehh so both wheels are driven until one is fully spinning. Makes sence now! It is only 1 wheel drive when the ratio between the wheels is like 100% or 1 wheel is spinning?
But airlockers just make the drive 100% to both wheels all the time.

why would you think about drifting a landy?

firstly - good luck the only landy I had sideways was my p38 in the snow
secondly - stay away from the doozil you will be sorely dissapointed

If you manage it then take piccys :p but my advice would be buy something else permanently locking a diff can only lead to problems.

I'm not going to drift a landy! If I wanted to drift I'd buy a drift car. I was just saying my mates weld their diffs to get drive to both wheels all of the time. But that is just because they want both wheels spinnng all of the time. I understand now, just got abit confused!

Anyway, is the 300tdi miles better than the 200tdi? Think I can get my budget to 3k now and it seems I can get a hell of alot more landy with the extra grand!
Cheers

Would you have a 200td or a td5 for ease of maintenance and reliability?

if it’s not about the upfront cost, is it better to have an engine without an ECU?

help please as we are about to embark on our first project

.... and yes I have read a lot of the threads but seem to be seeing mixed messages

Holy thread resurrection Batman!

I'd start a new thread to get up to date views - if you want them....
