Ok, my SIII petrol 109 is running pretty poorly so I'm trying to set my timing up properly, lamp attached and all ready to go but find that there is no notch on the crank pulley. There is a pointer but nothing to point to, I have cleaned the crank pulley and looked on the front and the back of it, nothing!

Has anybody seen this before and if so are there some markings elsewhere that can do the same job?

I have tried Slob's twist the dizzy while running timing set up but its running so bad anyway its difficult to get an accurate best position so I thought I'd try it by the book
 
yup - there are versions of the crank pulley that dont have timing marks :eek: - best bet is to lock the crankshaft by the fkywheel method and then mark TDC on the pulley. check someone elses pulley and copy the other marks - or buy another pulley :eek:.

Have a look down the back on the right hand side (Same side as the dissy) there is a small plate over the flywheel, thats where my timing marks are.
Failing that then you will need to set number 1 pot to tdc and and then go from there.

if everything else is set ok points,, plugs and you have no faults elsewhere in yer ign system then timing by ear will set it up to suit yer injun rather than some pre selected point which does not take into account wear, fuel,and other anominleeees only found on your particylar engine
I've had folk come to me saying they'd had their engines tuned using the old crypton doo dah and according to the equipment it was spot on, when it still ran like a bag of spanner had bin left in it.


i timed it by ear and they tried it and much to their surprise they reckon it int ever ran as well.

are you sure its not fuel related rather than timing?
 
Ah fekin am. Traffic inter Nooberry wus a bastid, then traffic inter Fatchum wuz a bastid, parently cuzuv an accident on the M4..............then the bastid M4 wuz fekin clear!

Fekin, bolloky, bastid fekers!
 
and dint fergit the folk pointing at his head sticking out the sunroof of his paxo and shouting " fook me thurs a boiled egg in a little car shaped egg cup"
