Hi all, I think I may be needing an updated RF receiver anybody know of a supplier who doesn't charge silly money as I try to steer clear of main dealers?. Many thanks.

Island still looks expensive at 158 + vat, got mine off eBay new for 50, but need to be careful it's a genuine latest unit (check inside).

Island-4x4 was the cheapest I found. If you don't want to spend, Nik-the-geek wrapped his in tinfoil and put some sort of suppresor thingies on his power leads and reckons he's had no issues.

;)

Wrapped in tin foil?

That certainly sounds like a better option than spending £200. I have to replace mine at some point so has anyone got any info on this mod?

It's best to fork out the cash and buy the real deal and be done with it!
The old RF receivers not only flattened battery but they where also known for burning your door locks out! Now that is 1 road I didn't want to go down, yes they are expensive but worth the investment IMO ....

It will not stop it burning your locks when the electronics goes tits up.

Does anyone know how and why the updated receiver works better?

It must work on the same frequency as the old one otherwise the key fob would not work with it. Presumably the latest circuitry is not affected by other signals which are close to the key fob frequency?

Any radio hams on here or electronics experts?

You have got it in one. The latest module is much better at rejecting signals that are not spot on frequency.:)

Thanks for all the information guys, I've just gone and bit the bullet and ordered a new one from Island 4x4, the wife said she'd buy it for my birthday. I'm just wondering what else I need while she's feeling generous!

I'd be more concerned as it what it is she is buttering you up for. She has either seen some footwear/bag/accessory that costs more than you earn in a month or she has broken something/crashed the car.

Whatever it is, be afraid, be very afraid.

Result! Not expecting my wife to but me any Rangey stuff for my birthday since getting her a set of kitchen cooking pans for her birthday.

They were top quality. Brass bottoms and everything. Still got the dent in my head. :violin:

Hi Grrrrrr, thanks but I've already ordered one this morning from Island4x4 and the wife said she'd pay for it!!

Yeah, sorry. Was a bit behind on the thread and catching up! Saw that afterwards.

Result and a half that. They were £160 last time I looked!
