Similar noise from mine was a rear shocker - worth a check! Had me puzzled for a while.

I just had similar with some other issues.
It turned out to be a universal joint on the propshaft, yours may not be but its easy to check to rule out. Just get underneath and give it a pull but dont forget it moves sideways as well as up and down.

Sounds like it could be anything and everything, its gotta go in for timing belt change (i can't budge the crankshaft bolt) so i'll get the garage to trace the fault.
