Last week on a cold morning my RR wouldn't return to normal drive height from access mode for About half an hour. Last night I discovered the lock button which stops the automatic height adjustment. I locked it on access mode and drove up the road to see what it would drive like. When I went back to the automatic setting the car will no longer change ride height either automatically or manually.

Anyone jhave any ideas?

If the light is flashing to indicate it is trying to rise, you either have a leak or the compressor is shagged. If the air suspension bags are ofer 8 years old they almost certainly have leaks, this leads to shagged compressor, a seemingly contagious P38 diease. do the soapy water leak test after you have checked to see if the compressor is running and developing pressure.

If you`ve only just found the lock button can we assume you are new to the P38? New owner? New to this forum? If yes to all three, Welcome... and good luck.
So as to introduce yourself to the EAS system try out Storey Wilsons site www.rswsolutions. This should help you to know what you`re looking at. As Nathan is asking if you have all the orange leds flashing you`ve a problem. If not, expect one soon!
If you are a new owner make sure you have the EAK code for your car. (preferably BEFORE you actually need it). check-out previous threads for explanations.

hi there;
i had the same pro like u describe and it showed up on cold nights,on hot days and night nothing happened, every time i went to start her up after work,i discover the front end on the bump stops and the ass sitting up,sometimes it is followed by eas fault and the xmas tree lighten up.
at the same time when she is trying to stand (light flasing) i hear the heavy leak psssssssssssst from the front,i ended up replacing the 2 front airbags with oem dunlop ones, and guess what it is cured (knock on wood).when u see small cracks in the airbags base it means it is time to replace,if the same diagnose is on yours,i suggest replacing asap the cracked airbags or u will be soon due to a compressor replacement.if the leak isn't from the airbags and if they r good then it is a different scenario.
good luck

There is one light flashing. And there is a solid light on the entry mode. I also suspect that the compressor is not running at all is there a way to test it?

Scratch that last post. The compressor is working as I just drove the car into town and it has returned to normal ride height.
Yes I am a new RR driver, and very excited. I'm an ex VW fanatic so I want to know how everything works.
Since I got the car it seems to sit more on the drivers side. Would that suggest I've a leak? And possibly causing these glitches?
Can someone show me a link to the test for the leaks. Thanks

Use the search on ere theres plenty of posts on eas and all you need to know.

Loads of great advice. Thanks guys. So I went at the o rings with soapy water. All
Is fine at the front end however at the rear passenger side there's alot of bubbling, and smaller on rear drivers side. Which is odd as it tends to sag on drvers side not passenger. Should I keep looking for leaks or fix these two?

Fix all the leaks and look very carefully at the state of the airbags check for cracks and perishing, and spray the airbags too.

Yes Rewmer, quite write, I should have said the EEEEKK ! code, but most P38 owners find that quite easily after the first reair bills start rolling in... Maybe the EKA Emergency Key Access code?

hi guys just reading eas probs as my RR sometimes sits low on all 4 pegs and some times it dont, it seems to pump up within minutes also when used and parked up for a short time get back in and start it rises is that normal LOCK BUTTON i am also a newish owner of the p38 wheres the button and what does it lock?? the ride height when parked.
thanks

For Novaman & all new owners: Checkout www.rswsolutions for overview of EAS system with some excellant videos. Checkout this site for RAVE, and EKA. Read , understand, and then re-read, and understand better!
You`ll save time if you do a bit of study first, and can then look for more specific help here, rather than have different members re-write the owners manual & workshop manual piecemeal and out of sequence. We`re all willing to help, but you can make it easier for all, us & you, if you do some background work first.

P.S. Sounds ike an air-leak: fix before premature wearout of EAS pump. Lock switch next to orange height leds and rocker ht. select switch: enables manual ht selection.

I've been under my car today. Bags all seem to be pretty new and in good nick. As I said I found tiny o ring leak on drivers side and bigger one on passenger side. Both of these are at the rear. There is however something going on as the car tends to sit to the drivers side, and it periodically takes time to go to the right height. Where else should I look for problems?
I'm assuming the o ring leaks are not major as the leaky side is not the side the car is sitting on

Jut a quick note when typing EAS could you do it capitals cos that looks like ars to me cos i suffer with dislexia:D:eek:

Download the free EAS software from www.rswsolutions.com and read the faults. could be something simple like a height sensor. FIX the leaks!

Don't rule the compressor out as of yet as the source of the problem. I was having similar problems with mine. It would not rise and then it would. Erratic ride height behavior. Or, IRHB. Well just made that one up but I found that the compressor was working but it was very week and it took a long time for the tank to fill and when it finally did the car would rise. It is a very easy change out and not to expensive. Also, the compressor failure is usually due to overworking i.e. leaks in valve block or airbags. If it turns out to be the compressor check all other related. Hope that helps.
