OP, if you search for onboard air, you should find details of a few setups. Most I've read about consist of using an air conditioning compressor from another car with a dog clutch running of an aux belt. There are a few places under the the bodywork where you could hide a small tank. At the back behind the wheels. In a 110, in the deadspce along on the seatbox, behind the bulkhead.


Sounds like a good plan, cheers! I've not seen any set ups like that, just bought arb compressors. Might be able to source something cheap from a scrapyard, use a fire extinguisher as a tank or something... Hmmm... :D got me thinking, nice one! :p

Are the compressors standard on those engines, or something that you've made up yourself? I guess it's for running lorry brakes if it is a standard attachment?

This engine came out of a Daf 45 7.5t wagon and as such the compressor is standard fitment.
As you say for the air brakes on that, as well as the air assist clutch, which is the only thing I'm using air for at the mo.
When fitted in Dodge's I think they have a vac pump on the back instead.

It fits lovely :p and just the right size for an lr.

Bet it pulls like crazy with that in it! What's it like on fuel? Suppose it's barely ticking over during normal driving?
I've always felt the landy needs a bit more oomph.
Not top end though, anything near 70 on insas is scary as hell haha. Just like the idea of being able to get to 60 in somewhere under a minute hahaha
I got a 200tdi conv slightly tuned, but she a trattor and I don't expect race car acceleration from it.
It's my first diesel, and turbo'd vehicle. Love it. :D
Only thing that would get me back to petrol would be a v8 >:D

Haha... I wish I could afford to self build, I appear to suffer badly from that poverty malarkey. Are you not doing any fabrication work at all.?!

Fuel, as you say it's only ticking over pulling an lr, again been told anything from 25mpg on your own with yer toe down constantly or 35mpg when towing.
Somewhere in the middle will be good with me.

Not a fan of petrol stuff myself either, one thing someone with the same fitted as me is, I've got more torque on tick-over than you've got full stop.
Probably not far from the truth :D

A very cheapo job is just the tank off a knackered compressor with gauge. Fill up at the local garage etc and hey presto a bit of air. No need for compressors etc
Ok this idea is of limited appeal but if you only need a tankful as a top up then.......
 
Could get a little twin cylinder PTO compressor off eBay for about 70 quid, mount that underneath then remote it to a tank in the load bed.. probably..

Yeah done ally fATPLs and am halfway through CPL - Both health and finances have caused a halt in proceeding any further at this time. Scary just how much I've spent so far. :eek:

Was looking at DAFs on eBay last night.
Trouble is I live on the Isle of Wight which makes logistics expensive coz of the damn ferries!! :(

Not gonna lie, I did think about this, just so when I go to trials, I can pump em up afterwards to get home.
28psi on sand is no good, specially with insa turbos!

I aim to make mine an expedition vehicle though, so would like to go down the compressor route eventually. :)

I watched guy Martian rebuild a spitfire on 4od the other night, awesome plane. Love the old school engineering.
I've always liked the idea of flying a plane, but I worked with some plane fitters before and I wouldn't trust em to bash dents out my landy! Really put me off flying that did! :p

Nah it's safe as houses, there's not another feeling like it!!! Most of my good friends I studied with were focused on Airlines, that wasn't for me, that's just like sitting at a computer flying. Me I'd love do aerobatic displays and instruct part time. Just so ruddy expensive.
 
I've been in a small prop sea plane when I was in Canada and found that to be far more pleasurable than the 747 that I flew to Canada in.

Sat next to the pilot in the cockpit! Was great! Was very unnerving coming into land on the water though!! :O
