And what happened?
What was yer verdict? Finish off yer bloody post:lol::D

just for the monkey who i geuss hasnt read what i posted right back near the beginning of this thread

i got a wolf gas/gasless it was about £130 , its got a good current range.. done some patching for a couple of mots on the disco and one on the fourtrak, i weld outside in the wind so use it gasless, its sticks the patches on, as neatly as the garage does without blowing holes, reckon id get neater if i used it more. but i still use arc on thicker stuff cos ive had 30 years practice and still got the arc welder..

Right so, if a complete noob wanted to teach themselves to weld (just patches on chassies and stuff) what type of, and make of welder would you guys recommend?

Remember, we're not talking pressure vessels or anything, just hobby welding.

arc will blow holes in bodywork... but fine for anything thicker than about 3 or 4 mm

sils and wheel arches you need a mig that will turn down to about 30 amps...some of the cheap crap wont go low enough.

how much is it?
got my arc about 20 years ago from a sodbury sortout.
paid 20 quid for it and a compressor, still use it, its nameless, noisy, heavy, hasnt broken, still works, does 6mm and if careful can do bodywork. (tho that does take practice)
