I decided to give the engine a good clean on the new (to me) 96 Disco1. I have found two small hard black plastic tubes that I traced back to the top of the gear box near the lever. I cannot find anywhere near them where they would connect to. The free end is 'U' shaped. I found a similar one comig from the top left hand side of the rear axle. Are these vents?

Also on the rear cylinder injector on the right hand side there are two ports, one has a tube connected to the previous cylinder injector the other port is open. Is this normal?

Breather pipes. Dont block or remove 'em. U shaped to stop water going down 'em.

The black tubes are breathers - I think there will also be one from the front axle. Keep these above the water line! Older Land Rovers had a breather on the axle with a sprung ball bearing to allow hot air out, but prevent water ingress. Later ones use tubes to take the venting point above the waterline.

The line connecting the 4 injectors is the fuel spill line - not all the fuel sent to the injectors makes it into the engine, and this takes the excess back to the tank. The last connector is blocked, but it does look like something should go there.

Do a search on this forum for Rave CD and Microcat - the RAVE CD's have the workshop manuals, Microcat is the parts system. If you get those, many questions are answered!

No, Rave us much easier to get working than Microcat....

Agree with Richard - I've worked in IT for 20 odd years and getting Microcat to work was a pain. However, the parts information can often explain so much, and also knowing a part number is the quick way to find the best deal for parts.

The workshop manual in Rave is a must read for any Disco owner who doesn't want to rely on dealers for their maintenance.
