Whats the biggest tire I can fit.........only joking.

I've got the bearmach +1" springs on my Disco with 30mm wheel spacers and now it looks like its on stilts lol, Im currently running 235/70/16 BFG ATs and have been advised to fit the bigger 255 70 16s but Im torn between the Cooper STTs and the BFG MT and MT2s.

Has anyone any experience with these tyres and can advise/mention the pros and cons of these tyres?

Or could anyone offer a different tire they would recommend?

50/50 road/off road use.

PS would 265s be a bit too big? I've seen a good deal on the BFG AT2s but only in the bigger 265s?
The reason I ask is a fellow disco owner fitted them to his standard disco and they were slightly too big.

I'm aware of how changing the tire size changes various factors

Thinking about this myself and currently between Cooper ST Maxx and Goodyear AT/SA+ 235/85/16 standard height with a camel cut

So have you got +1" springs and 30mm spring spacers or wheel spacers?

I've got insa traction track 265's on mine with a terrafirma +2" spring kit (medium springs) and there's plenty of tyre clearance with a wee camel cut. They were originally fitted with just RR spec rear springs and were a bit close, so if you're saying you've got +1" & 30mm spacers then yeah, I reckon 265's would go on it very well.

It must look a bit like a tank on little doughnuts!

I've ordered 255/65/16 Hankook Dynapro AT RF10 today. 73EUR each without VAT. I've been running them on a Nissan Navara for the past year and they are absolutely brilliant. I'm taking off my BFG MTs for the winter as they are not very good on snow and we tend to get a lot of it over here in Slovakia. I've had General Grabber ATs and hated those (though many sem to like them). Also has 265/70/16 BFG ATs but they were too big and really affected the way the car drove on the roads and motorways - mind you they were very good offroad.

I run 265/70/16 bfg a/t on mine without noticing an effects on the car.

Will be looking at 265/75/16 when i change them though, but i have 2" lift and -32 modular offsets and 2" flexi arches fitted

Sorry mate meant to put wheel spacers in the OP, I've edited it now.

My mechanic mate who advised me to put the cooper stt 255 70 16s on has them fitted to his, he has a +2" lift (but mine looks higher?) but his rub slightly on the radius arms on full lock, he's thinking of fitting wheel spacers to sort that out.

No probs. Yeah mine rubbed on full lock too, so I've just adjusted the lock stops to correct. Downside is that a 3 point turn in a normal car that took 5 turns in the disco, now takes 8 turns!

Might be good to get me some spacers!!

You won't be disappointed with Cooper STTs, I fitted Coopers to replace my BFG MTs and i much prefer the Coopers both on and off road although the BFGs were well worn so that might be a bit unfair to the BFGs. I think the Coopers are also quieter on tarmac, you can only really hear them at low speeds.

I couldn't decide between Coopers STTs and Maxxis Bighorn 764, in the end I got the Coopers a bit cheaper so went for them. A friend has Maxxis 764 on his D2 and looking at the specs and the tread pattern there is very little between them, he loves the Maxxis and uses his D2 as his daily driver.

Mine are 265s and although the BFGs were 265s, the Coopers are definitely a little bigger and even with a 2" lift the Coopers folded the rear quarter under.

So I had to increase my camel cut a bit. Flexi arches next I think.

That's what I have on my Disco. Very pleased with them so far. Wife had Coopers on hers and they didn't last long.

Quick update:

I've got the STTs on and I'm pretty please so far, I've not had any off road experience with them yet but you can just tell looking at them compared to my part worn ATs that they are going to be more capable, Road manners wise they seem about as good as my ATs and quiet too but I'm still bedding them in so haven't really pushed them yet although they did seem to be slightly noisier during heavy(ish) braking, the ride is more comfortable and when I ventured briefly off the tarmac they soaked up the bumps and potholes well, they really look the part too and fill the arches nicely and with the 30mm wheel spacers I've not had to adjust the steering stops due to them rubbing either, I will check if I can adjust them for a better turning circle but I doubt I will be able too, every things still road legal too but without the standard XS plastic arches it would be debatable, they have also made the disco a little higher and it has a much more purposeful stance and road presence. My speedo seems to be more accurate now as before when it said I was doing 30mph my GPS said it was 27 but now when my speedo says 30 I'm pretty much doing 30mph.

But I would like to know what tire pressures should I be running with them (mainly on road pressures but would be interested to know what to run off road also)? at present they are about 30psi all round, my old BFGs were running 26psi front and 33psi rear as per manufacturers recommendation (off road 17psi front 26psi rear).

I like cooper tyres, especially stt's have them on my chevy truck, assuming I am reading them correctly they can take 70 psi cold pressure whereas the cooper at's I had before would only have 45 psi max

I run STTs on my Disco, 235/85 16, no spacers or lift, the obligatory camel cut was needed for the back and the front inners get a walloping on humps and hard articulation!

I run 45Psi all round road, and down to 18psi all round off road, not bust a bead yet but was tempted to go down to 14/15psi last weekend on the sand.
