Looking at a 2011 2.2 HSE auto with 38000 miles.
What should I check?
Is £15,000 way to much from main dealer with warranty?

I would say yes myself considering if you moved up a bit on mileage 50,000 to 75,000 which is nowt for these cars, they are only just being broke in at those sort of milages.

triple the mileage but a third of the price, so you can see that these FL2 diesel are going to come down in price over the next year or so, once the government really battle down on the dreaded diesel user.

It is a buyers market for these cars well any diesel cars at the moment, if you really like the car you have seen offer them £12.500, see what they have to say use the government crack down as leverage
 
Just keep in mind that it could be worth less than half that in 2 years time.

I have taken a look at the vehicle and apart from a very small mark on the bumper (will be fixed by their body shop) it is truly immaculate.
It has only just come in, price is fixed at £15,000 no movement at present. Decided to walk away.
 
Main dealers won't move more than £500 on that. To do so yer would need an identical comparative vehicle which you have been to see, £500 cheaper to get them to move £500. Even in December which is their quietist month of the year they won't move much. Sales kick oft massive int January when peeps realise they need the next new plate. The days of walking in with cash or a silly offer died with cheap easy credit in the 90's. Snow tax doesn't eggsist anorl.

It will only devalue if yer want to sell it. Run it fer ever and yer won't see a loss. ;)

When comparing main dealer "nearly new" or "used cars" as most call them... yer have to consider it will have a 2 year warranty from LR. MOT warranty and LR eggsperience half day oft road. Buy it from a non main dealer and it will have a number of months warranty at most.

Freelander 2's sell reasonably well still from main dealers. Even the last run of Metropolis are still floating around £20k to £22k. That's not bad when considering they sold new at £36k during the last 6 months of build (10% oft list price during the last 6 months). Prior to this it was called the hse lux at £40k, without a few things like tyre pressure monitoring.

This vehicle is truly immaculate in every respect, I have been all over it and underneath OK so they are professional in vehicle preparation but you can't make a turd look like anew vehicle.
I have checked mot history not ever failed, no advisories ever, one owner, full LR service history, the only accessories it has is front floor mats.
I am going back to look again but I think my head will probably lose out to desire for a quality looking vehicle.
I bet its sold when I get to it.

Yer can put a reserve on it to take it oft sale. They will give you it back. They normally ask for £500. This would make sure it's there when yer turn up. If it's a main dealer which has a network of dealers then any of them can sell it as the stock is considered national.

Main dealers sell at a slightly higher price but there's some benefits to it. Fergot to mention they will cover it for 2 years breakdown cover by LR assist anorl. but check all this out with them to know what yer get. The issue is if you want to pay that bit eggstra. If yer plan to keep it for a long time and it's int good nick and history is good (may have had repairs outside of the main dealer network so not listed on their computers) then hopefully it's a good vehicle to start oft with. That's my theory anyways.

So I have negotiated a deal I was willing to accept they did drive a hard bargain but we got there in the end.
With the advice given I set myself a target to change price, also looked at the accessories I wanted to get for it (dog guard, roof bars and rails, side steps and mud flaps) got two years parts and labour and I prepaid for two years servicing (the price discounted to the same as my local indi LR garage.
With a part exchange to factor in I ended up £350:00 off my target price to change, good discounts were given off the accessories and servicing which helped considerably.
Will be picking it up next Friday, I hope life with it is as good as I expect it to be because it is going to be a long time keeper.

Thank you Hippo it did take a number of visits to settle it. The Freelander 2 must be a strong seller but this one is mint.
They said that a number of people were showing an interest in it but I did pay a £500:00 retainer and they agreed to take it off sale for a max one week.
The main dealer experience has so far been good but I was parting with a good wedge of money for a 6 year old car,

My daughter has the same car she paid £13,000 for hers it is a lovely car she loves it , i think they do hold there price well has Hippo says well done

I am hoping that it will hold a good price but in the current climate of uncertainty short term ownership would make it a big loser on resale but long term when all the diesel hype and brexit scaremongering has settled the Land Rover brand will hold its price well. Fingers crossed.
 
There's a lot of worry about diesels but it's not as bad as peeps think. Model year 2011 onwards the FL2 had a dpf as standard and was EU5 compliant. Before this dpf was optional so I would guess know one bothered because of the eggstra cost. Before 2011 they were EU4. The higher up the EU scale the betterer int UK. Disco sport is EU6 with its add blue.

Yes diesels are being picked on int UK. Typically a new one like RR will attract a heavy first year road tax as it's a big car with big engine. Engine sizes are reducing ont newer models anyway. A lot of this is done to make company cars cheaper to run fer leasing. There's a lot of talk about shooting big car diesel owners but it won't happen over night. Newer technology gets the same power out of smaller engines.

Petrol is coming back anorl. Has been for about 3 years. Manufacturers could see this so the likes of LR created more petrol engine available int UK. In truth they just gave the UK the same petrol options made available to none UK buyers from the ingenium range.

The future of diesel won't heavily tax current vehicles already ont roads, more significantly than they do already. It will rise a bit but not more than normal. New diesels will be hit more and phased out over many years.

The only real problem we'll have is where yer can drive yer diesel. Yer'll find congestion type charging popping up int centre of London, fer diesels. Either payment per day to take yer diesel in the centre or just a ban on it going in. This will spread wider across London. Dun't go there... Problem solved. This is already happening.

Poverty stricken sh*t oles like bumingham Manchester Glasgow etc will also copy this in their centre bits. Nowt to worry about. Dunt go there and yer'll be ok. In years to come when the FL1 cellerbrates 30 years int 2027 diesels will still be about ont roads. Not many wanting to buy them new as cars if they're still available. I eggspect they will be available as diesel electric... Current rolling stock ont roads will still be about. Fool price will be ok as there's loads of trucks buying diesel.

All fings considered there int that much to worry about if buying a FL1 or FL2 diesel. Bother are out of production and prices have settled. Older FL1 diesel technology will be hit harder with regards to limiting travel int london etc but they will also be hoping these cars phase out. They won't run us oft the road as long as yer keep up the maintenance and pass the mot. The mot may change int years to come to test diesels more to check they're conforming to manufacturers spec. It's just a case of maintaining it correctly as far as I can see.
 
Birmingham is already looking at a congestion charge for 2020 "inside the ring road", some silly prices on there and it includes buses. It won't be long before all city centres are at it, yet another way of making easy money of motorists...

A very good summary from Hippo but an additional factor missing is how organizations like friends of the earth, the government and others are convincing the population of drivers and non drivers that the internal combustion engine is the work of the devil. They dont want to drive or be driven in anything that is not electric and as such will push the value down of anything that has an engine.

Both the Freelander 1 and Freelander 2 are marvels of British engineering. When other vehicles are banned from the roads... our Freelanders will be given permission to continue as they were. ;)

Oh I do hope this is correct, I can just see the them listed as "of historic British heritage" and the government via the National trust pay us to use them so others can see them.
Can this be extended to other Land Rovers or is it just Freelander 1 & 2?
