Pretty sure my insurance is only valid with a current MoT. They certainly checked it when I renewed. I guess they will insure SORNed vehicles though and probably cheaper.

LVE were cheapest last time I looked.
They must check the mot, when I renewed I said my annual mileage was 4000, they said are you sure because you only did just over 1000 last year.v

It’s a diesel so engine is spot on.
Well...spot on ish.
@Lukas018 2cylinders missing was a laconic reference to Henry’s love of V8s. Can’t say I wouldn’t mind the challenge of a 4.0 think they go on an r380.

Situation is -
MOT due mid Oct so tried to claim for smashed windscreen...since I’ve been locked down for months Ive let my insurance run out
Is too late to renew that policy of £480 - they now want £900 to insure :mad:

So windscreen and also a hard srs fault I have been unable to identify without diagnostics
don’t see how I can get a £300 screen + fitted + £40MOT + £265 tax and insured (£1500!) by Oct.
That’s 300% what I payed for the vehicle

Don’t have yard in my new home but I have stuck it in garden once before, possible I could sorn it but then have an un-mot able untaxable 3T ornament

I have me, the dog, and my P38.
I love it to bits and would be very very sad to let it go but my vision is narrowing ; if I have to choose of the 3 :(
Oh crikey mate that's tough. The insurance price is a a joke I am with Admiral same spec RR as you got it for £350 but on fire and theft maybe try that?

Think if you buy a windscreen a firm can fit it for about £150 my mate got it done on his Triumph spitfire.

Do you know what the SRS fault is?

I'd keep it as a statue, did with mine for over a year...

In the past 4 months i've spent its weight in parts just to make it roadworthy. :D

Drives well enough now, does seem to shed parts like a snake sheds skin!

Disheartening but you are right. £900 is ridiculous not had quote like that since I was 17. Must be something out there affordable, can’t understand how it’s rocketed
I missed payment of 480, now 900?!? Quote from LVE £1689
Looked up if my new property could be blacklisted (postcode known to affect) apparently no?

I’ve got to get some money together after they’ve just charged me £98 for the privilege ,maybe then I will be able to think straighter

Hiya. Thought you'd gone to ground ;) First off, no such thing as blacklisted property. It's a tale that grew up decades ago , and never went away. People get poor credit not houses. Although area will come into it. As will age, and NCB Although many insurance companies will give you a massive discount, as a new customer, if you don't have any NCB but no recent convictions. It's not what you ask for , it's how you ask ;) I might seem harsh on here , (sometimes :D ), but I can charm discounts out of the hardest company :)

SRS appeared after got parked up for years. It did get parked up because it was rolled but airbags didn’t go off. Could be knock sensor/SRS ecu or even just need resetting with diagnostics just to turn light off. I’ve had dash out and it’s nothing obvious.

@Henry_b how big (ft) is your tarp that covers Fudge?

Isn't there two bulbs for the srs,if one is blown it illuminates the other?

Both are fine it blinks away
Tested when I topped up battery and swapped about with the other knows to make sure

It might sound shillish, but I use Adrian Flux through here, and I am paying about £300 full comp.

We currently have the wive's P38 SORN and insured as off the road while we get it back up and running again. We just wanted some cover in case it gets damaged or stolen while on the carpark behind the houses.

If the pretensioners fired when your bus was rolled, that'd trigger SRS. Although I think they were only fitted to the later vehicles when they all got 4 wheel TC.

Would have set bags off I would have thought. Was more on side didn’t really damage front - I have the 2 sensors on chassis legs

I expect bit more as is modified but not nearly twice what I payed with zero NCB? Guessing if I don’t use the ncb itl run out

Fair point. Although the airbags are only good for 10 years, at which point they should be replaced. They might have been fired but were duds? Without diag though you're ****ing up a rope.

Adrian 4x4 department aren't so bad for modified. Worth giving them a ring to see what they can offer you.

I’m thinking if all is lost insurance wise I’m not giving up. There’s few big trees out back if I climb up there and cut them down bit by bit can take fence down and park it right round back out the way quietly, cover with tarp (one that doesn’t stand out) and sorn it.

Place I put it last time is easiest but too in sight as all the neighbours developed an opinion rather quick.
I don’t want to end up like @Nig with council coming round to forcibly clear my garden and Freelanderers calling me a f*gg*t forevermore

in the old days, you were advised to get airbags checked by the dealer at 10 years old, but that is no longer the case and are deemed to be good for the life of the car. The 'inspection' by the dealer was visual, along with a confirmation the self diag was working

The SRS Airbags have a expiry date printed on them, all P38 airbags are past their use by date.

The P38 specified replace front airbags at 10 years, and side impact ones at 15 years. Not just an inspection. Of course I can't imagine anyone ever has as that'd be prohibitively expensive. There is a high probability the explosives in the airbags don't detonate or with insufficient strength to be of use in the event of a collision.

I'll have to check!

Just have to hope that the explosive doesn't become unstable and explode when it shouldn't:eek:
I have got rid of the side airbag one side, keep meaning to do the other one.
