hi evryone , ive got a m reg rr 2.5 bmw engine 257000 on the clock and still goin strong ,but theres 1 thing i dont like about it ,and thats all the electrickery, i like to keep things simple .. what i want to know is what mods people have done to their rangys .

ie second batteries , independent glow plug switches ,

You won't be able to make a P38 electrickery simple without a lot of work. :(It's like having to engineer the whole car again...

But in order to make it electrickery reliable, you can do some known mods:

-BECM Reprog for Aussie market and no EKA code. (to avoid immobilizer mess)
-RF receiver change for latest version (to avoid battery drain)
-2nd battery or biggest battery you can fit (i have a 125 Ah 1000 CCA)
-SynchMate in the glove box (to solve BECM desynch)
-EAS inflation valves

With all that (i did it), you're almost 99,99% sure not to call a lorry

thanks for that il do some research now on the rf reciever now ..i just like to know that my battery is not gonna let me down when the snow comes, cheers

apart from converting it to LPG - NOWT & I couldn't be happier

i love em too:) but all the electrickery scares me and i like to make sure it starts in the winter ...i tend to let my rangy have 3 shots of the glowplugs every morning then it will start like a petrol but i dont travel to far for work (2 miles ) my car gets a full service every winter including grease nipples oil filters and a full coolant flush ,i was thinking if i had a manual glowpug button it would be less drain on the battery

This is what I have done
Changed ABS accumulator to prolong the ABS pump.
Check the condition of the engine fuse box.
Top quality battery
New RF receiver
New Airbags and system check to stop the EAS pump overworking
Check all connectors you find and earth points.
New battery leads.
Hot start fix
New quality glow plugs

I can add a few more mods I recommend:-

air pressure gauge for the EAS
BMW m3 expansion tank
aircon fan override switch

Of course :)

but may i add the M3 expansion tank needs a light and a buzzer to benefit it's internal coolant sensor:rolleyes:

Yes of course, Flo, you are right. It also needs an indicator light. I have fitted an LED in the dash panel. I have the buzzer yet to do.
It could save a cracked head!

If there is no write up already I am willing to do one if there is enough interest.

id be interested Dave .on another forum i was on for another 4x4, there was a sub-section on engine mods and a how to fix section ...could we have 1 on here please mr admin
