+1 The 2.25 diesel is a tough old bird (I once had one that cracked a piston and the bloody thing ran for 5 minutes on engine oil alone), but it is not designed to cope with the additional induction pressure from a turbo. You would spend a huge amount of time, effort and money working out how to do it, and even if you were successful and could get insurance, you would probably not see a big improvement without introducing hideous fragility.
OTOH there is a reasonably priced and well trodden path to converting Series LRs to take the 200 Tdi which would give you about 50 more reliable horses and better economy.
