Can anyone tell me what a centre differential lock is, where it is and how / why you would use it? I have a 1999 td5 discovery, is this likely to have one?
Thanks,Will.

it locks the differential in the transfer box so both propshafts turn at the same time although dosnt lock the differentail in the axles, your disco wont have it i dont think.

yours wont have one will, utilises the traction control instead.
should have a low box tho.

Thank you chaps, traction control - that makes sense. I was wondering why earlier discos had diff lock and the TD5 did not.
To be honest - I have never taken a four wheel drive off road yet and probably wont be unless anyone knows of a " soft roading" area any where near Leeds / Bradford / Harrogate where I can take her for a try out :).
Cheers,Will.

tailored to suit, no rush, plenty of banter.
2 or 3 motors, steady away.

buckden to yockenthwaite road, north yorkshire.

You have not seen my wife :eek: - 4ft 11 with a black belt in being a nasty ba%ta%d .:violent: Trust me - it is best all round if I just do the grouting, and the tiling and the floor :(

Buy the Ashcroft Transmissions kit, you wont regret it...such a better car off road with Diff Lock AND traction control IMO
