Went for a drive in mine... all good

removed the cover off the S1 & Mrs has gone for a good drive.so far the indicators stopped working so she tapped the relay & back to working. This is normal for them after not been used for 4months

Hopefully she don’t ring for a tow.

Sounds good,

I had one headlight on main beam, an indicator and the horn stop working. Seems that a bit of pressure washing after playing in the mud and leaving for 4 months a few connections get a bit sad.

Cheers

Well the Mrs is back and the master cylinder has blown a seal again

So I have the options of a S3 cylinder plus a special made plate to fix it to chassis & brake pipe adapters
Or a re sleeved and new seals for a S1
Both are around the same price
( oh & it’s a bank holiday so hopefully some will ship them fast)

Just had the TD5 lid off to change the injector harness. Very pleased to see a shiny Turner Engineering / AMC Head, so one less thing to worry about

Swore at it!

On my way to collect granddaughter from school. Waiting near the head of a long queue for the swing bridge to close after letting a yacht through. Barriers go up, cars starting and moving off, I turn the key and nothing.... 3 attempts but just silence! On with the hazards and as I'm on a slight incline able to roll half onto the verge. Cars squeezing past to access the bridge  I'm getting lots of dirty or pitying looks :p

Open the bonnet and go straight to the starter motor and lo and behold the **&%£ing exciter wire to the solenoid had come off (again!). Slipped it back on the tab, jumped in and it fired up immediately on turning the key :D

The last time the same happened was because the starter motor itself was loose and twisted the wire off but this time it was secure, the tab seemed to have slipped off.o_O

mine did that a while ago. embarrassing.

One of those one job leading to another situations
Started out replacing the oily injection harness and cleaning the ECU, thought I'd check the turbo, wastegate sticking badly. Freed that and thought I bet the actuators buggered which has caused that through lack of full movement. Yep.
Then noticed around No. 5 looks a bit sooty. Warped manifold, got a nice dewebbed one on order. (I will not be reattaching the EGR junk so the MOT man will need to not look under the cover ;))
One thing went right though, got all the manifold nuts off without snapping any studs which is a miracle for me as I snap everything.

Fitted a master cylinder to the S1. It would have been simple if I had not made a hydraulic clutch conversion moons ago.
So needed to remove the clutch master first then brake master & re fit in reverse order
Would not bleed normally so back filled it under pressure. Still crap but had a pedal. Then re bleed as normal. Brakes now spot on & all adjusted.
Only took 15hrs.

The 40A fuse blew on my Disco 2’s driver’s seat motor. I keep a bag of miscellaneous fuses in the truck but of course no 40A fuses were in it.

Brakes locked on the S1.they must have pumped up & locked up. (Peddle moved 1/2” down before full resistance) Release the pressure via a nipple. Moved the snails so they are fully off.peddle now moves about 4”
Another test drive tomorrow.

The brake saga continues....
Gone further today & brakes locked up again. Pedal not dropping, must be the rear flexi collapsing. Fronts are new as are the cylinders. Not done the rears yet thought I could get away with it.
Well order parts & hopefully they arrive before the weekend.

It's been a busy Easter...
  • finally assembled, fitted and lined up new rear door with new anti-burst lock and keeper plate...and drilled 5x 6mm frame holes for inner waxing. Once fitted gave the door frame a thorough Dinitrol waxing...and watched it all pour out of the lower holes! o_O
  • removed PIAA horn set and washer bottle/assembly to install super smart rebuilt heater box...
  • installed underwing air duct, heater box assembly [it's a real fiddle, am sure these were installed at factory pre-wing assembly!]
  • made up, sprayed and fitted new bracket to attach lower washer bottle mount to the inner wing...the 90 never had one attached, now it's properly solid. Made this front an old sill cover L bracket
  • Re-fitted washer bottle, PIAA horns and wiring
  • Fitted NSF Gwyn Lewis mud guards and flaps
Trow fit OSF and both rear sets...

Oh, and cut the grass too :)

Went full on yokel.

We've had a week of too hot to be out in the sun, so loads of plants have stuck on fresh, tender growth...and we have -10C forecast overnight ( at a mile up, thin air cools down fast)
So chugged out to the stubble fields to get some insulation- i.e rake up some straw the combine didn't pick up last Autumn. Saw some people picking over the fields, who looked like illegal metal dectorists. Went to shout 'get orf my land' and saw they were neighbours collecting dandelion shoots for salad.

Picked up a few trailers of straw. Remembered the correct way to drive across a ploughed field. Was pleased the handbrake was deciding to work today, as parking on 20 degree slopes is fun.

Had too much cider with lunch

Went back to get more straw ( now remember boys and girls, drink driving is very bad. Even at walking pace on a field you own...) and finished with a trailer of firewood for good measure.
Met another neighbor harrowing and sowing a field, so lapsed into Provencal, and kicked the soil, discussed the weather, how this year..
Proper yokel.

The TD5 banana shaped manifold problem...
Another day, another job to add to the list- but its bloomin freezing so it can wait
