Been pottering about in Wales today. I fixed some electrical problems on my friend's Defender and got hi lights working again by cleaning the plugs that go on the back of the headlamp bulbs and bending the little tabs on the back of the headlight bulbs so they actually touch the female metal part in the plugs. Plus changed a sidelight bulb. Everything's working in time for his MOT.

Then we went on a drive around the hills in the rain. Over the hills to Aberystwyth in the rain. On a tiny mountain road from Nant Y Moch reservoir to Tal Y Bont we encountered hundreds of little Honda cars all on their way up the hill. Every time we thought they had finished going past we had to pull in to let some more by. S2000s, I think they were. Some of the puddles on the mountain road would be up above their door bottoms, so I wonder how they got on. Registration plates from most of the nations in Europe as well as UK ones. Then in Tal Y Bont we met a load of Series 2 Land Rovers on their way up the mountain too. Some of them had roll cages and others had a lovely mossy patina. Then there were more Hondas. It looked like everybody had stopped in Tal Y Bont for lunch, which must have filled the coffers of the Black Lion and White Lion pubs very nicely.

That reminds me, on the way to Borth, we saw a lot more Land Rovers, accompanied by a strong smell of Castrol R. I didn't realise you could even still buy it. How can I make my 2006 TD5 smell of Castrol R?

Just about to go and give the fender an oil and filters change.

Using Morris oil 5w30 semi synthetic and the usual Fram filters!

Its one of those jobs I love doing as you know its doing good to the beating heart of the beast! :)

Today I've looked at it so far when I went into the garage....likely to be about it today as well. Went for a run to Machine Mart in it yesterday to collect a new vice, and then stopped off on the way back and loaded up with bags of hardwood logs for the logstore. Thinking about it I must clean the back out actually....

I thought this was the "What have you done to your Landie today" thread, not the "What do you intend to do to your Landie one day when you get the energy, inclination, time, fine weather and the motivation" fred.

Darn it, I better not say anything then..........And I had such a list.........LOL.

Cheers

Bolted bits together, took 'em apart and changed the whole thing around ...

put the windscreen panel, sides and roof back on, starting to look like a Land Rover again, it's all coming together.

fitted two 18 watt cree led 12inch bar lights as extra reversing lights .I fitted them to a relay even though its not needed. made the mistake of taking a fused live feed from the battery as well as a feed from the reversing wire .
as soon as I disconnected that live feed it all worked :)

Switched off daytime running light option because it was getting on my tits.
Filled it with petrol (Ouch!). Advised the breakdown service of the change of vehicle.

Refitted the injectors after having them refurbed. Put one new UJ in either prop, maybe a bit overzealous but they feel better now. Collected the winch bumper and winch , now to repaint and fit.

Roll on tomorrow to carry on the fun. Now time for a wine.

Cheers

Ran out of welding wire!

Just finishing the bumper, lower mounting points bent and welded on. Lots of heat, fixed in the vice and smacking with a percussion instrument .. then a feckin' long, heavy pipe. Then more heat and more whacking, jeez but this plate steel is tough. Finished making and almost finished welding plates on as end caps, left with about 8" of welding to do .. and Screwfix didn't have any in stock, so can't finish it fully till tomorrow!

So stripped the winch ..brand new inside, bashed about on the outside but works brilliantly, apart from the freespool which needs some use, the seals are so new they hold it back! Put my old motor on (12v) and will be selling the new motor (24v) at some time maybe.

Soon be time for cleaning, priming and painting .. ;)

Cleaned up , painted & fitted the winch bumper, ( which included cutting the grille and the surround a l'ill bit, all wired in and it works.......:D
Greased and refitted the Props
Put new Ep in the diff and one shot in the swivel housings.

Now just have to fit the new brake hoses on the front ends to the calipers and bleed the system then fingers crossed back on the road to see if the refurbed injectors feel any different.

Cheers
