Yesterday was a 400 mile round trip from Bristol to Chelmsford (visiting the Essex Scout Jamboree for the day).
Disco performed well - surprised at how much fuel is still in the tank! Was a comfortable drive on the motorway on the way there, and a really good drive (so much better than my old 300tdi) on the non motorway route on the way back (decided when leaving Chelmsford at 8pm that chances of staying awake would be better if we came back the non-motorway route - Harlow, Stevenage, Luton, Aylesbury, Oxford, Swindon). The ACE really did its job properly on the corners. Only thing we did discover was the aircon really needs some TLC - was far too hot and sticky even at 10pm. Only one stop in each direction and we weren't uncomfortable apart from the heat. Definitely the right choice of car!

On the downside it seems to have developed a rattle from the gearstick when in any of the "upward" gears (ie 1,3,5) - guessing something needs tightening. Doesnt do it when the gearstick is in the "downward" gears (ie 2,4)

Today I fitted the new leather gaitor for the main gearstick - still need to do the transfer and handbrake ones though. Had planned to go out and do those this evening but the rain put me off.

Also ordered a new towbar, and bought a set of spotlights for the front.

Getting there. Definitely getting there.

Spent today driving from Bristol to Bodmin and back to Bath in a brand new high-spec Nissan Navara, towing a 750kg trailer.... and wishing i was doing it in the discovery!

Annoyingly my new towbar was delivered while I was out - need to arrange to pick that up!

After a week away camping with the Scout Group it was great to drop the minibus off and pick the Disco back up today.

The warm weather meant I got bored sat at my desk... so this afternoon i started putting together the light bars for on the roof.

The back bar was easy... two low-profile LED worklights and two low-profile LED flashing beacons... each just a case of assembling the brackets and pop riveting to the roof bar.

The front bar was a bit more involved with the ring driving lamps bolting on. The initial pair dont quite seem right - so its back online I suspect to order another pair... going to wait a few days though as considering keeping with the pattern of the rest of the kit and buying something a bit sleeker with LEDs.

Front amber beacons also quick to attach. Just need to do the grille mount ones now (and need to work out the best way to attach them to the radiator grille) and then all the wiring. My plan is to install the switching where the ashtray currently is (the spring mechanism is broken anyway and its not like I ever use it). I should be able to fit in the control unit for the amber beacons with space below for a couple of switches for the work lights and driving lamps... the only issue is what to use as the faceplate and how to hold it in place.

Definitely thinking that it either needs 4 spots, or one long LED bar

Back lights seem ok though. IMG-20160815-WA0005[1].jpeg nice and discreet
