Was at work yesterday and Saturday, but instead of working I ended up spending most of the time towing vans of site. Poor old girl got a serious work out lol

well after two weeks of rough runnibg 300tdi.... i've fixed it... yay

wouldt rev past 2500rpm was slow.. did a engine service last week and no better..

so today i cleaned out the sedimenter... bit of crud but not much..

then it wouldnt run at all..

tried to prime fuel system with lever on lift pump.. no resistance so took it off.. the end of the lever inside the pump had snapped off so not pumping..

lift pump only 6 weeks old.. scratch one britpart lift pump..

Dropped it at the garage after it overheated on me, got up to just over halfway (it always sits at under) looked in the header tank and nothing so filled it with water and crawled to the garage keeping an eye on the temp.

Hoping to have it back at the start of next week, rad was hot all over, top pipe was hot and no **** in the tank so I think it might just be a split hose or cap not pressurising as there was no hiss upon opening.

One of the aux belts under the top intercooler hose was also a bit chewed up :mad:
 
Currently with someone who drives a Nissan Patrol :) What can only be described as scraping the very bottom of the barrel :( He's helping me sort out the oil leak though. Anyone for wasabi?
 
I think I've solved an intermittent electrical problem. Sometimes the starter wouldn't turn the engine over, especially when the vehicle was in remote locations of the kind which would be difficult to describe to the AA over the phone. Or indeed where there was no phone signal at all. Sometimes it responded to my rattling the wires around under the bonnet. By wobbling them about a bit more systematically, I managed to narrow it down to a spade connector on the starter motor. This has now been cleaned up and the female part squashed together a little more with pliers. So far it's been excellent. However, I'm beginning to wonder why my starter motor is awash with oil. I can't see where it's coming out. I wiped as much as I could off and will look again tomorrow to see if I can see what's oozing. It doesnt drip where it's parked, presumably because the starter motor collects it all!

I was using setting 3-4 on the 6mm plate with a mid speed but I was having to be careful not to put holes in it :eek:

Just experiment on scrap til you find the right setting
 
I practiced on a bit of scrap first but got bored :eek:

i went on a welding course 28 yrs ago and learned to do it with gas.

it takes less skill to point and fire these mig sets, but you do still need to practice.

if yer welding a motor it pays to have a bucket of water handy too ;)
