Today i have had a brake form the intermittent electrical fault i have. got all new genuine column switches on way.

So i decided to do more electric things. Heres my aux power for beer cooling facilities.

Sorted my reverse light switch. Then put the whole lot back together, being an idiot I thought I would test the spare box I rebuilt and fit it instead of the original,
Surely that's a good test?

Only when I couldn't get the bellhousing to go fully home did I realise, I hadn't checked the dowels! Yep there was one in the engine and one still in the box in the same position!!!

Pita!

I did in a stroke of luck manage to draw the box forward just enough to knock it out with a long punch:)

Last week saw some ford fiesta seats for 20 quid so bought them and cut runners off then welded them to series runners bolted in and job done after a quick clean they look OK, the pattern on them is even blue to match body colour

Noticed water in the oil on Friday so off with the head on Saturday a clean up of the surfaces and noticed dents on the top of one of the pistons being as they are only a few hundred miles old there must have been something got in there recently.
While at it I replaced the valve stem oil seals that should have been done by the machine shop a couple of months ago when they skimmed and supposedly checked the head along with a rebore and new pistons
All back together now and seems to be running smoothly now.

After a chat with a friend this morning he seems to think the marks on the top of piston could be inclusions ( think that's what he said ) , basically it's caused by impurities in the metal of the piston just below the surface and as they get hot it causes these marks to a appear

Not too sure about this myself. Some of those dents have metal divoted up next to them, so it looks like something's hit the top of the piston. If you get bits of the base metal which aren't as durable and disintegrate, that looks more like corrosion pits, which yours don't.

When I took the engine apart a few months back cylinder 3 had similar marks on the piston , seems a little strange.
After the last rebuild i could not stop what I thought was pinking no matter how I adjusted timing and carb but I couldn't hear any pinking on a test run last night .
I wounder if what I thought was pinking was something in the cylinder but that seems unlikely as I did not find anything. Also I did not have the air filter on during the test run so the carb was rather loud

Those little points and peaks in the top of the cylinder will get hot and may be enough to cause pre-ignition. Likewise, small pieces of metal bouncing around would be glowing red hot before too long and set the mixture on fir s soon as it came in. Maybe now it's cleaned out it'll be better.

I've just had a dream in which I discovered oil leaking from the turbo bearing on my TD5. I went out and checked when I got up and fortunately it doesn't look like anything's coming out.

I find the major difficulty with doing Land Rover maintenance in dreams is that when you wake up, it all still needs doing in real life too, so it feels like your efforts were wasted.

Drained out the brand new oil in the transfer box, changed rear output oil seal, only to find front one now leaking badly. So decided to rescue the new oil ready for another session under the Landy at the week end changing the front one grrrr

Examined my rear chassis auto oiler, then realised I just have a fooked rear diif pinion seal and it's spraying oil EVERYWHERE!o_O

I think it had been a seal too long

Greased me uj's, replaced the wiring to the rear left indicator and given her a proper wash down underneath and ontop ready for her mot tomorrow!

When I see some of the Landies on the lift at the garage where I take it for the mots and see all the shìt and muck caked to the axles and diffs and rear x-member I'm surprised the chaps work on them. I'd be too embarrassed to drop mine off like that, a bit of respect goes along way (hopefully I get a pass!! :D)

Remember they are not allowed to uncover anything when doing the MOT, if they can see all the rust and rot you'd get an advisory or fail ....

Just realised how much Loctite you've got on that shelf. I thought I was a Loctite addict but you're way ahead of me. It looks like you've got the same pressure brake bleeder as me too.
