Took the bulkhead, radiator panel, apron and a few other bits to be shotblasted. Bunged it in the back of my old Astra.
Estimated £110 plus vat.
I will post final costs afterwards.
Removed the offside lift-up seats from the 90. I rarely have passengers so two jump seats is more than enough. More legroom now for any users and space to store my 'stuff'off the floor.
(Seats, frames & belts foc to collector, details in the for sale bit).
The old settee cushions are Molly the half a Collie's travel bed. The two seats I removed had the original retaining straps with poppers to fit the lugs on the seat bases whereas the n/s ones had been cut off
So I swapped them over, much neater than using the seat belt or a bungee cord. Photo above before I fitted the straps.
Looks like I’ll be using the 90 more. The DMF on my Audi is failing! No issue using the Landy, but it means I’ll need to get a replacement for the Audi as it’s not worth replacing.
Removed all door cards, Refitted (bodged) the front door pockets with longer #3 stainless screws. Greased all the door lock/window mechanisms and found the rear windows only work from the door switches.
I can hear a relay??? from in the centre console clicking, but nowt else. Need to check that sometime in the next few months now .
my 'other' 3 door 200tdi D1 ('93) has been resting in the garden behind my garage, today I decided to 'hotwire' start it (couldn't be botheres with ficin the immobiliser issues ...)
so charged battery & 2 bits of wire later.....
it started & runs lovely
not bad considering it's not started for at least 4 years
so, will this one be a spares donor for my '91 3 door 200tdi Disco & maybe the engine find it's way into the '86 ffw that we are buying? will have to think about this for a bit.....
I rebuilt the steering pump on my D2. The old one was leaking a bit so I have replaced the bearing, oil seals, O rings and gasket. Not exactly cheap for all the bits but better than paying for a new Chinese one.
National windscreens fitted a new windscreen to my D2 yesterday. Made a really good job of it. Just waiting for a new front hub to turn up in the post cos once that's fitted it'll be MOT time.
I went for a nice drive around south Yorkshire. Please to be driving one of the most basic vehicles on the road, and having a small chuckle when I saw a broken down 2019 reg Disco Sport, bonnet open, driver sat on the grass. It made me chuckle anyway.
.......and today removed my Hannibal roof rack. It must weigh the best part of 50kg or more and was a minimum of a two man job to lift. Need to replace the rubber padding on the 8 support/fixing brackets.
Might then look at selling it. Don’t use it much and racks seriously effect the fuel consumption especially as the LR is so aerodynamic!
Hi all, I’m so glad my 90 has snap bolts!!!
Just about everyone I tried to undo broke!
So tub all unbolted, wings, bonnet, doors, roof, sides, windscreen, seats & seatbox removed
So the tear down & rebuild begins
put a cambelt on an unknown 2.5d that had previously suffered a snapped cambelt, it runs perfectly
okey, had checked for bent valves / pushrods & rocker gear damage and fiund all in good condition so I guess it's all down to luck & where the cam stops
now to re-assemble it all & hope for no coolant or oil leaks
Driving down t'road from Barnsley to Hoyland. Battery light comes on. Power steering goes heavy. Got myself home, opened the bonnet. Power steering belts gone. ****!!! Guess what I'm doing tomorrow.
