took the lift pump back as it was the wrong one to get me off the a1 last night. I seem to be going through lift pumps very quick is there anything I should be looking at to prolong the life of them. I'm thinking towards blanking the hole in the side of the block and using something like a facet inline pump to feed the distribution pump or is that a bad idea

What brand lift pumps have you been fitting?
 
bearmach was the last one and that only lasted 4 months max with minimal mileage the one that has just failed was a none brand to get me home from 3 hours out. it was from a landrover garage though just had no box was just in a clear bag. and that lasted all of 2 months. it's just getting a bit stupid with them failing so often. I hae since changed the fuel filter twice and the oil and filter twice so I can't see that I'm lacking on the servicing side of things
 
Got to grips with replacing the starter motor and removing a dodgy alternator!
Was rewarded with a nice shiny new spanner for my trouble when removing the alternator a shiny snap on spanner fell out! Was only a 6mm but made me smile after being in the cold this afternoon!

I fitted a Delphi one last time I did one and never had a problem.
 
could I have a problem with my sedimentor? I have a spare that I could clean and rebuild then swap out for my current one. would I possibly see any benefit?
I'm just thinking of any extra stresses on the lift pump. I know the tank breather isn't blocked as there is no difference with the filler cap on or off while the engine is running. I have run nvo with the last lift pump but this one that has just failed has seen only white diesel.
I really need to improve the reliability of my lift pumps as it is meant to be the back up tow vehicle for work and it is fully capable of doing so but the lift pump has now left me stranded twice
 
Same here, last one I fitted was a Delphi and it's worked flawlessly for about a year now. Lot's of peeps say other brands are a waste of time.

right delphi one now ordered. lets see how quick this one dies.
think im going to have the sedimentor off aswell to give it a clean
 
Well it can't hurt to take it off and clean before hand. Worth doing I'd say.

glad I checked the sedimentor. I have a spare that I was looking to refurb so i could just replace it but from attempting to remove the fuel lines from the spare tonight and finding them seized. I found the bolt ontop to drop the bowl off the bottom so figured with having a spare I would try to remove the bowl off the one on my truck. glad I did it was full of sludge. looked like slug had made a home in it.

any ideas how the sludge has built up? I have used 70+% nvo during the hotter months then changed back to just pump diesel on the first sign of her struggling in the mornings. could the nvo have reacted with the diesel? or is it just a lack of cleaning? there was some sand in it aswell but considering I know the previous owner had her in wet sandy mud and I have had her at yarwell aswell so that accounts for the sand but the sludge is something I can do without so just want to see if anyone has any ideas where that could have come from as there is no way it could have been dragged in in one piece so it must have 'grown' in the sedimentor
