Took big spare tyre off rear door and fitted one to match my noo wheels on to the roof rack out of the way.

Found a small drip of diesel from the fuel filter drain so stopped that, wondered why it was bad starting the last two days, fuel must have been running back:rolleyes:

Drove it round most of the day, the old 90 is going like a dream:)
 
Trying to work out how a grease gun goes together and really hoping it isn't going to be a nasty mucky job :eek:

Happened to ask my uncle if he had some tools I needed as he doesn't use his anymore. He didn't have all of them so he bought me them :D:D:D

Not sure that this grease gun is right though, its huge and has a cartridge of grease like the silicon guns have. Is this the right thing to use on the Landy, assuming I work out how it goes together of course.

Thats exactly what you need pal should look a little like a air hose end for in flate your tires just goes over whatever grease nipple you choose and pump jobs a goodin.
 
cut hole in front drivers floor so i could get to the top of body mount cut away inner sill, repaired body mount inner sill and new plate on the floor. Then welded up hole on other inner sill. Then made 2 plates and welded them to the rear inner arch, Think next year new box section and new body mounts. may even lift the body a bit for the sake of it.

Oh good, I am learning the checks and stuff to do on the Landy before it goes laning this week. Might wait to put it together until then, when I have help to work it out :eek:
 
Replaced my 80 degree thermostat with an 88 degree one from a certain company that comes in a blue box. Only to find the new one runs cooler than the one I took out. Improving my heating system for winter is not getting off to a very good start.
Think I will have to try a different brand. Any suggestions anyone?

Bought this Warn XD9000i for less than a ton:

Main obvious problem was that the clutch lever for the free spool was missing, you can see that the area of housing is damaged where the detent screw fits for the lever. So I've ordered a new housing assembly which comes with lever and gaskets from Devon 4x4.

Removed the 10 allen bolts holding the gear assembly to see what state the planetary gears were in - first impression was that the grease was very hard but what I could see of the gears looked good:

Hex shaft and 'drive spline' look good but again gummed up with old grease:

Top cover off and the solenoids are in amazingly good shape:

Disassembled the gear assembly and cleaned off the excess grease - all the gears operate well and there's no damage (had some lubrication for me too):

Got the motor housing cover off after a fight, the long bolts that hold it on were in a state and took some extracting, the cover itself needed lots of tapping with a rubber mallet to free it up. A whole pile of grey crap came out - looks to be remnants of dissimilar metal corrosion from the motor end cap:

The bearing that sits on the end of the motor shaft next to where the brushes contact is siezed:

The winch came with this isolating solenoid which I may reuse.

The two lower allen bolts that hold the end plates to the bottom tray of the solenoid pack are completely seized in by dissimilar metal corrosion and have rounded, so out came a large drill bit.

Got the drum off and knocked the motor out of the end plate, it was pretty solidly in the bearing...

Degreased all the planet gears using gunk and white spirit, then gave them a healthy coating of light oil to inhibit rusting...

Anyone got instructions for fitting a cubby box. Of outside to attempt it in a minute :D:D Oh and what tools do I need, will I need to drill holes.
 
Ha! been following that already :) doing some nice work on it!

There should be more pics up at the end of the week. I've got the roof lengths tacked in place for the raising roof.
Today and yesterday for a change I've worked over the weekend, something I don't normally do.
I'm on witrh the right side doors, the doors do take a lot of time, especially the hing brackets. Once the doors are in place I can move to the right side door where the wash basin will go.

Waiting for new Proxxon flexi drive and some drum sanders....

Had mine ticking over whilst electric pump was pumping up me rear wheel. Strange clicking noises coming from the engine bay, the belts i think because they were a bit noisy. Then suddenly started squealing like a bitch, battery light came on so i gave it a rev to see if it would stop slipping. It didn't, and when i turned the engine off and opened up the bonnet a load of smoke came out, stank of burning rubber and the water pump wheel, where the fan belt and alternator belt meet was very hot, main belt was sticky and there were deposits off shaved of rubber attached to it.

Had a look and then put the cowl back in etc, started it up and it was fine, but sounds noisy. Anyone have any ideas what the fook happened, if its just worn belts or something more serious like a water pump seizing up or something? :/ cheers tis a disco 200tdi btw

sounds like pulley seizing
 
tit, are they a pain to replace?

before jumping to conclusions as to which pulley i'd be taking the belt off and checking for play or roughness in all the pulleys (paying particular attention to waterpump and alternator). just cos the shredded rubber is on the waterpump pulley it doesn't mean it's the one at fault.
