Fortunately I never had to change the heater matrix. But I know how too, and unfortunately that means the whole dash out:(
Give yourself plenty of time and label everything up as you remove it. Take lots of photos and beware of airbags.
You only want to do this once, so put a decent replacement in.
Have fun:)

As for removing the whole dash, I failed just trying to remove the front panel - couldn't remove the radio cage to access the hidden screws, so ended up using frustration, anger, blood (literally, that cage is very sharp!) sweat, tears and heavy tools to mangle it up completely. I then succeeded in removing the front panel - but I was doing that in an effort to remove the cigarette lighter from it as it had broken and needed replacing - I then found I couldn't remove that either.

Such fun.

So I disagree with you - you don't even want to do it once! I prefer damp carpets and topping up the cooling system

Maybe there's a way of disconnecting the matrix (in the engine bay at the bulkhead?) and running some K-Seal through it?

Just passing through, off work with a bug, so I thought I'd drop in.
I don't think I've got 3K posts in me, even with all the b0llocks I talk;)

P.s currently returning 61mpg in the little red toaster, scary on a motorway though.

New LED sidelight bulbs, to go with the headlight bulbs last week.
Now the fun starts, one of em ain't working and it's not the bulb...:(

LED side light bulbs don't last long in the FL1 headlight unit anyway, as the side light aperture is too close to the headlight bulb. This causes the LED side light to overheat and fail very quickly.

It's an FL2 I have now, but the bulb isn't the problem - yet.
I put the two originals back in to check, still not working, so I have a gremlin somewhere.
I don't expect the LED's to last, I have them in my Audi and they're a pain in the 'arris.
Would the block connector cause this...? It's only the one sidelight not working.

I see 2 problems with your plan....

(1) How will you clear the windscreen of condensation and ice?

(2) Will your life be worth living once you tell your wife this?
I didn't think if that lol
Anyway I did 230 mile round trip yesterday and it's used no coolant I can't understand it to be honest

My L series does that - will keep hold of all its coolant for a few months, then the next few months it empties the coolant bottle after what seem like every time the car's used.

Cheers grumpy
I will just keep my eye on it for now till I have the time to strip it

Decided to take the risk and change front brakes myself including both callipers as one or both were sticking and braking was becoming a nightmare. Fitted EBC yellowstuff discs and pads and so far so good, done plenty of testing in a nearby car park: they look good as well. Next step is it fit EGR bypass and I reckon at the same time replace the hoses with silicone ones, was going to buy the DPH kit unless anyone can suggest a cheaper yet equally reliable manufacturer.

Be careful with EGR bypass at next MOT if they see it they will fail it
