Do your back seats click into place with the guard? Or am I just not being firm enough :/Painted and fitted the dog guard behind the rear seats, have to make some brackets for the rear window one, fitted the soft top and found the side finishers are missing so ordered some new ones and a red key.
Whether you're in gear or not won't make any difference. Check tyre pressures and VCU (one wheel up test). Check diff mounts to. Those symptoms are exactly the same as mine had for about 1 mile (I thought the exhaust had come loose) - then the IRD went BANG! Probably not so major as that, but you did good taking the props off to check it out - well done.pulled the prop shafts & vcu, prompted by a metalic rattle from under the car when moving and a repetative thumping from the rear left in low speed corners or at low speed decelerating to a stop in gear.
Took it for a drive after removing the the props and vcu - all the noises are gone away.
So it's 2 wheel drive only till I diagnose and repair the faults in the transmission.
Cheers

That made me laugh even though it shouldn’t been a dog person, but yeah seems to click and lock in place alright there should be some brackets/tabs on the bottom as well but mine never came with them I will just keep a lookout for flying spaniels.Do your back seats click into place with the guard? I had to brake hard ish the other day & the seats flung down with mine installed. It's been their since new so the previous owner must've experienced it. Not a massive issue but gave the dog a scare
If its the standard LR dog guard then I have no issues clicking the back seats into place. I'm for ever taking the guard out and putting it back in when I need to fold the seats for extra space, and never have any issues with the seats clicking in securely.Do your back seats click into place with the guard? Ah that's my problem then I didn't really force it very much. Not sure if it makes a difference but it is the 3dr.If its the standard LR dog guard then I have no issues clicking the back seats into place. I do have a rubber mat that covers the back of the car and under the back seats - this does affect the seats ability to click into the bottom clips OK and the backs of the seats won't fold up more than 1/2 way. I have to lift the seats up and give them a good hard shove down to make sure the bottom clips secure properly. Nothing to do with the dog guard though.
Hi GG, That silver 2003 Diesel [manual] looks ok. $600! What causes smoking issues? [White smoke]Freelander hasn't needed anything doing, but took the 'backup' Starlet for its WOF (MOT) today. It failed on a couple of bulbs, a tyre, the drivers seat being unsafe and the quarter glass in the rear passenger door not being glass (it was broken by a low-life breaking into it and I've 'filled' it with a bit of plastic). A front CV is shockingly bad, the 2 front windows (manual wind) are broke, and the fan belt or something on it is crying something cronic. Mrs Grumpy suggested it might be time to get rid and replace it - GREEN LIGHT
The engine/box/clutch are sound and its only done 125k miles. Its a '92 1.3EFI that we've owned for 15 years and its needed next to nothing in that time. Its probably worth $1,000 (£500) fixed and warranted and the bits to fix it will be under that.. but I'm not sure I can be arsed to do all that work.
So, looking to out it and get another Freelander - something I don't mind spending a bit of time on and something I can pimp a bit for off road capability. As its for off road, I fancy an auto so that means TD4 or V6. I don't fancy fuelling a V6 or driving that hot engine into a river or having the HG go in the middle of nowhere - so that means TD4. There's a few options around at the mo as well.
This one is knocking 200k miles and is a long way away so would cost a bit to get here, but I have a good red bonnet and head lining on the parts car...

This one's even further away and similar high mileage, but a higher spec, dunno what it will go for, possibly as high as $5k which would not be an option...

This one's a local low-miler, shame its manual...

Shame the L Series doesn't come with an auto option...

There's a few L Series in good nick for sale at the mo, but they want to much cash.
That's one for the first things I did with mine. I find the standard bulbs are pretty much useless.LED'd up all the interior lights, including my new MGF mirror. Cor blimey what a difference.
LOL, sounds like Landy all right.New drop links during the week, two new handbrake cables and new self adjuster both sides. Took a couple of goes to set it up correctly - with help from this forum and half a tube of copper grease, I now have the mother of all handbrakes, rear brakes that self-adjust properly and no more noise from the front end (bag of spanners falling down a a staircase).
Went for a test drive and the wiper linkages snapped, and an indicator bulbs failed.
RAGE!
Wish I was 52replaced track rod ends.kn******d.then I went to sleep .I was kn******d.hey I am 52.lol.
