This past weekend I tried out a wifi obd transmitter using an I-phone on the dash. It's interesting seeing the various readings in real time.
It did make me realise that the values are not a lot of use without knowing what they should be. I will have to do a bit of research.
One that jumped out was the engine temperature which showed my V6 running at 105-110 degrees C. That seems a bit high to me. Opinions?
One thing I did find was that I should have ordered one of the stubby style transmitters as on my LHD Hippo the longer unit fouls on my right (throttle) foot.
I have an extension cable on the way so will have another go when that arrives.

Most V6s in the UK run between the high 90s to about 105 in moving traffic. If you get stuck in slow traffic, 110 isn't uncommon. Keeping an eye on it is important as it could signify the thermostat is beginning to fail.

Thanks Nodge! It runs bang on the center line of the temp guage now but I will keep a close eye on it.
As bad a job as changing the T-stat is I would rather do that than change the head gaskets!
Is it worthwhile going for one of the alloy T-stat housings when changing the stat?

Yes if you can find them. The original Rover made stat was an alloy unit. Sadly it got dropped when BMW took over and was swapped to the crappy plastic unit. The inlet plenum was also originally alloy too, sadly that want the same way as the thermostat.

Today I finished my interior mirror temperature display/ FBH controller project. It's taken a good few hours to complete, but I'm more than happy with the results. So now not only do I know what the outside temperature is, but can set the FBH to assist the heater at a temperature I want it too.

Just bought it yesterday, so today I have fitted new mats, mobile phone holder and a USB 4 port hub, and have ordered...
new side steps, new stereo, new wheel centre caps, roof bars and and elm327 bluetooth adapter. still on amazon and ebay though so this list might increase as the night goes on haha. oh, and the bairn has a chrome autobot symbol to stick on somewhere as well haha.

It's best to make sure it's in correct working condition before spending on frivolities. 4 identical tyres are essential or the 4X4 system goes bang.

This arvo I investigated problems with the n/s front window mech (slow and keeps getting stuck). Not the first person in there - the plastic had been cut and taped up by Ray Charles by the look of it... Ran the motor, and head the distinctive noise of broken gears/teeth from the mech, as well as a small but definite could of plastic dust emanating from it. New unit is on it's way for £28 all in inc. postage. That'll be next weekend's job.

Maybe get a bluetooth tyre pressure monitoring system. That might save you £££ in the future.

Yeah, cheers fella - getting it booked in for next weekend for next weekend for a full set of tyres and an alignment - and I am ordering a refurbed VCU this week just to be on the safe side. Had a couple in the past so I remember a few of the things to keep an eye on
