Whip off that naff turbo, and grab a turbo from a late-spec Rover (25/45/MGZR/MGZS)

Swap the turbine housings, and gain a nice little boost in peak power (dyno recorded 10-15Bhp on Rover SDis, which have a smaller fuel pump compared to our hippos)

Something I'll be doing over the next few weeks, as I'm just taking bits off my spare Rover 45, rather than selling for a pittance :)

cheap, £266 for all four, feel ok, handled better on my way home than the slicks that was previously on there lol
as for road noise, it sounds like some ones blowing across the top of a bottle, im sure after a while i wont notice it, but at the moment its a novelty in trying to change the pitch at different speeds :)
As for off road performance, well i havent a rear prop just yet so i have no idea, but they look good :p

eeem.... this is the same turbo, but wastegate accurator is set different. Mine is set for 21 peak boost (instead of 17 stock)
 
The early SD, the mid-age SDi (same as ours) and the late VP30 equipped cars, are all slightly different turbos ;)

They're all GT1549, with the exact same turbine housing, it's the compressor that differs.

SD and SDi have the same compressor wheel, but different AR compressor housings (very little difference tbh)

The late spec, has a more efficient compressor wheel, with matching housing




Don't go higher than 19psi - they start to go out of their efficiency range at any higher, and have been proven to give lower power
 
Fitted my second hand webasto fuel pump with hopes of getting the FBH running at last.

Unfortunately it still doesn't work so looks like bumper off checking the glow pin.
 
Took 2005 one for an MoT , started to swap cambelt and water pump on 2000 reg one .

Failed MoT but just on a front drop link so happy with that , and 2000 one now better with non leaking water pump and exhaust cam timed correctly !

I'm sure testing stations run competitions between testers to see who can fail the most drop links and track rod ends. I'm positive they don't need changing a lot of the time.

Didn't need changing really but simplest - just a perished boot !
 
Drove it.

A four hour round trip, with an empty trailer going out and loaded coming back.

It ran fine. Its weird - I have had a feeling that something is not right for a couple of weeks, but never been able to put my finger on what exactly it might be. It just doesnt "feel" right. I know Landrovers come with a sense of impending doom as standard, but this was worse than normal.
Anyway, It ran faultlessly, even slogging up hairpin mountain passes.

lol, Did you see the thread I put up at new year where I could hear a problem with the engine - but nobody else could - family, friends and a couple of garages all thought I was mad - but I could hear this impending doom so clearly. Even though they were quite new, I had the cambelt & accessories changed (obviously costing $$$) and the noise was still there (or not!) - but its been absolutely fine taking 5 adults on a 3K kms road trip, taking mountain passes over 3,000 feet etc and running as good as ever. The utter madness of Land Rover ownership - probably any car you own for its character as well as its functional abilities :)
 
Drove it to Birmingham to pick up the refurbished summer wheels :D well chuffed with them, mind I knew I would be as I have had at least 14 sets of wheels done before at the same place.

Tried to undo the IRD fill plug in prep' for an oil change. I said tried - it was a no go, even after hitting it first with a hammer, impact drive and using a long bar. I only succeeded in rounding off the bloody plug :mad:

While under there I noticed that my radiator is weeping just above the lower outlet. :( :(

oh christ mate, I got my son to use a long bar, bought one of the flat sockets that hippo recommended and sat nice and neatly on the ird plug, but christ all mighty i thought he was going to give himself a hernia , but did come undone

God knows what they do them up with at the factory , must have been Popeye

when a mate rounded it off had to use a chisle to slowly knock it round

not sure the sockets with pins inside would be any good

wish u all the best in getting it out , is really a two person job , one to push the socket on and another to pull on the bar

Swapped out the inlet manifold for one I got off e.bay.

It was hard to get clean, oven cleaner, jet wash lots of choice words.

Only took 30 minutes to change over but i had it overnight soaking in oven cleaner to get the used one clean.
