If you have a lead right foot you don't want a V6. At 6500 rpm it will burn 5 litres of fuel a minute!! Mind you you can't drive them flat out for long without breaking the law or crashing ;)

Dunno like, my old BMW's got up to a fair old speed...To be honest, it's probably more leaden now because of how slow the TD4 is, have to keep the pedal mashed just to get anywhere at a reasonable pace

Managed to end up with 9mpg in en EP3 Type R i once had, full tank of fuel on a Sunday afternoon on a B-road loop around Northumberland! Ahhh that was a good day :D

So a 0 to 60mph max acceleration must use 0.5L or more?

A lot more. Have you ever thought that the fuel guage drops after you have overtaken another car? If so then that's because it has dropped!!
My ZS180 used 3/4 of a tank at a morning rolling road session to map the ECU after the new cams were fitted. It's frightening just how much fuel fast revving kv6 uses.

Haven't noticed the gauge drop any faster than usual. Is it really that bad for a 0 to 60mph burst? I once read in a hgv training book it uses 1 gallon to accelerate from 0 to 60mph normally using the gears normally. If pulling away in first and hitting the rev limiter before changing up you use the same amount of fuel in 1st gear alone. Hence betterer driving style reduces fool consumption.

An actual 0 to 60 acceleration run probably doesn't use 5 litres as the engine isn't running max RPM for long, 2 or 3 seconds at a guess. I do know that the Android Torque App has recorded my full power fuel consumption at 4.8 litres a minute. Obviously you can't drive at max power/ RPM for long periods of time. So a tank of fuel does last more than 20 miles!! Just.
 
Installed an aftermarket stereo, took me an hour and a half but it looks beautiful and the audio quality is well worth it.

I now know why you don't get good MPG............you need to learn how to drive fast without thrashing the engine. :)
 
Changed the from pads, nearly to the metal on one side from a sticky caliper, whoops! 3 siezed slides and a spun off bolt. Not bad from changing them less than a year ago.

Changed the radiator

Tried to change the vcu bearings and had a brain meltdown of the proper mushy pea type. Thought I better quit whilst I'm ahead before I got stressed out and broke something. 2wd for the weekend!

The glow plugs will have to wait for another day!
 
Looked at it parked in the car park at work.

Oh and opened the door to get my sunglasses this morning.........
 
Ah bugger, drove home from work and checked the rad hoses, bottom one is stone cold.
The temp gauge was normal, heater blowing hot air and of course i bled the coolant as I put it in. Hot coolant returning to the header tank, Either I have an extremely efficient radiator or an airlock. Bastard

What engine?
Don't forget the same rad is used in the V6 which produces twice as much heat as the 1.8!! My V6 bottom hose shows under 20°C after a 10 mile drive if the ambient temp is around 10°C.
 
Moved it so I could cut down the rest of a tree before there is a repeat of Christmas eve's tree on bonnet saga!!
 
Hmmm.... Hope so. It was a good 25 mile drive at 70mph. Wouldn't think the bottom hose would be stone cold. Warm maybe but not cold? Surely that would be bad for the engine? I parked on level ground and will bleed again in morning anyway. I shall at least sleep abit better after you said that.
 
If you did 25 miles at 70 and it didn't boil over, that kinda says the cooling system is ok. The L series doesn't create much heat, no diesel does really compared to a petrol engine anyway. Have you played with the coolant recently?
