Hi all, this is my first post on this site.
Today I replaced the crankcase breather filter on my 2006 TD4 with the bmw oil separator insert.
The intercooler hoses (and particularly the sensor coming from the top pipe) have all started to get oily. After some research on here I thought it would be a good idea to carry out this modification.
I will be replacing the original hoses with new silicone hoses in a few weeks.

A few weeks ago I replaced a window regulator after a window got stuck down. Bought the part on the net for £52 and did it myself - saving £256 on the main dealer quote of £308 for the job! :)

I'm no mechanic (office job) so I'm well chuffed with myself but I couldn't have done either of these jobs without this fantastic site. Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU for this site.

My Freelander is 7 years old now and starting to get a few things going wrong. This site is invaluable.
The other little job I have done in the past was to repair the windscreen wipers that had stopped returning to the park position.
I drilled out the rivets and took the cover off the unit. I was expecting to have to solder a bit of copper onto the contact, but as soon as the cover was off I could see the problem - there was a big blob of grease on the contact. Wiped it off, re-fixed the cover with some little screw bolts and nuts and the job was done.
Hopefully this tip will save someone some money one day and I have given something back to the forum.
 
painted the fuel tank cradle .. and other assorted rusty bits underneath

sometime i aim to get a new cradle .. or have one made up ..
'n have it powdercoated ..
 
Fitted one of these to try out for a few weeks. Sounds nice and it definitely has more go above 4,500 rpm. If I like the performance gain I'll be looking at improving the breathing of the standard filter housing.

I did this to last weekend. It was still solid enough but paint was starting to flake. So wire brushed it and sprayed it with waxoyl. Then went about spraying it on other slightly rusty coloured parts, rear sub frame for a start.

Mine is nearly rusted away, just the main bars left:mad:
 
The bodys dont seem to rust, but every thing else attached seems too :hysterically_laughi


The top of my back box has rusted open.....MOT station not noticed this for years its held in place with wire coat hangers as the mounting brackets have rusted off;)

Eggsourse is allowed to rust. That's it's job.
 
Drove it for the first time in over 2 weeks, it loved the torrential rain.......and doors still on. :D

Aren't the side steps held in place with M8 rivnuts? I had that issue when i fitted steps to my old Freelander. I have the same rivnut gun which didn't fit the rivnuts in the kit. I made a tool to fit them in the end.
 
The nuts are M8 but the thread inside is M6

I tried getting around using the big tool but couldn't get a tool made
Just didn't have the bits
If there is a next time I buy that tool of fleabay

I just used a stainless steel bolt an a couple of nuts together to fit the rivet nuts. Worked a treat.
