I have a cupboard full of 12v units left over from Netgear routers etc - I have fitted a couple of them with clips and use them as battery maintenance chargers - they deliver similar current as a trickle charger. I rotate them on stuff in the barn which may be left for considerable periods

Good idea.
But here's an even better one, ;) I use a similar 12V charger (which is actually more like 17V or 18V off load) with one of Nodge's PWM5 battery chargers to keep batteries good and it will never over charge the battery.
Pity Nodge didn't think of that. :p
 
On load the netgear chargers just maintain a happy voltage similar to the float charger - current is a little less than my float charger but it's enough to maintain the batteries - even so I just rotate them when I have occasion to go into the sheds - golden rule on my patch is everything must start - I'm too old and grumpy to drag things out of the way to get at others..........

I did;), although I had a 20 Watt solar panel keeping the battery charging, not that there's been much sun recently. :(
 
Finally got around to replacing the rear twin pipe exhaust box on my FL1 TD4 so I can fit a towbar. What possessed LR to fit that beer barrel sized thing in the first place, had to be the lowest point under the car? Got a genuine LR towbar from eBay. Went on easy enough but need to tap out a couple of the holes to fit the final bolts. Now the reversing sensors are on all the time when reversing even though it's supposed to not notice the towbar :confused:. That will be another job on the list.

I'm not sure why LR did that. However a few of us have replaced the huge and inefficient rear box with a smaller straight through box, which doesn't hit the ground, tow bar or anything else. ;)

Got my big pile of rusty underbody components back from powder coater. Very shiny! Am going to send a rusty but solid fuel cradle for galvanising to see what it costs and if it works! Estimate is around £1. 30per kilo of item. Say 15kg??Worth a punt.

Thought you were putting the V6 into the G4 lookey-likey? Being a typical jock, I'm too tight to drive to devon to drool at shiney bits, so you'll need to post pictures.
 
Low mileage yes 70k, facelift no, HSE without the H !!
I'd definitely have another V6, however it would have to meet my strict requirements, or I'd not be happy with it. I've actually got an itch for a V8 Discovery 3,:eek: with LPG. But sadly I'd never convince the wife we needed it, which we don't. :oops:

I think the problem might be the insides of the small bore tubes in the fuel tank cradle. There will be no way of getting all the rust out from inside them and they might be too small a bore for the zinc to be able to find a path out of them.

Glad someone is following the plan ! I have 2 V6's. Both are too good to scrap. I may go the V6 route into the orange peril but will probs try to find a totalled one with a rear end shunt.
I have a real drive to repair things and can't bring myself to rip a good vehicle apart - against my religion !!!
 
What about a rover 75 v6 MOT failure or a freelander v6 with catastrophic transmission wind up - viscous and rear diff and or IRD? The '75's have a tendency to dissolve parts of their back suspension in a similar manner to first generation discoveries dissolve their door sills and floor pan.
