Started stripping the F$"^&(@@g thing down in the Pi$$14@ rain for clutch change. Seemed like a good idea going the DIY route. Every bolt solid so far, even the under engine cover which has been off loads!!! Resume tomorrow weather permitting.

Polished the misting off the headlamps and fitting some nice bright H7 bulbs and my custom LED side light bulbs.

Next job is to remove the stupid Parrot thingy from the stereo.

Those bulbs look just like the ones I had made for my office. 240v tho, had the daylight frequency as well for better colour reproduction. Take a picture when you have them in mate. Cheers Mike

My led sidelights are playing up after only a few weeks, need to dig out the ones I had in the last motor, they were bullet proof

my led sidelight bulbs have been in for about 18 months now and have been no trouble at all ,only cost me two quid for the pair as well (famous last words will probably pack up now ).

I make them up. They are 12Volt 1.5 Watt G4 LEDs I use AC/DC versions as they don't mind what way they are fitted or the voltage they are powered with. This makes them basically last forever. They are really bright too, maybe 5 times brighter than the standard 5 Watt side light bulbs.
V5 = Registration Document for a vehicle.
I bought my latest Freelander without one so had to apply for it to be registered in my name from the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency, (DVLA).
It takes about a month to come through as the DVLA do various checks.
It's all legal now so I can use it in anger! :)

Fitted a new fuel tank cradle as old one had rotted out so purchased one from ebay for£165 as dealer wanted £300 seems very good quality.
painted my rear drums black and also fitted some uprated headlight bulbs and side light bulbs.

Finally fixed the knocking from the nsf. Both lower radius bushes were knackered (although just a visual inspection didn't show it) I have poly bushes to do throughout so I used these, at the moment the other side is standard and you can feel the poly bushes are much stiffer.

Lol - Ahh I see, so a V5 isn't a faulty KV6 Freelander!! Was wondering why you'd want to do that to yourself.

Yesterday I probed the gearbox loom to see which [if any] solenoids were out of range.

I hoped to see the one of the gear solenoids out of range to explain the lack of 4th but only the 2-4 brake duty was way out :(

Ah well, off to the specialists [different one this time though!] it goes for repairs.

Ok, daft suggestion time. I admit this has nothing to do with the auto box, but keep reading. Had an issue where 5th wouldn't select, then lots of flashy lights, HDC, abs, tc and handbrake, then the speedo and rev counter would go to 0. Then the dreaded F4. Fault reader said nothing stored and everything wash hunky funky. Kept doing it, so turned my synergy 2 off just to eliminate that, still no fault codes stored, car ran fine apart from no 5th intermittently. Checked wiring, fuses, connections, water ingress etc, nothing. In desperation I ordered the upgraded brake switch with harness from Landrover, fitted it, guess what? The car runs fine and with the synergy back on. Tried it in D, sport and tiptronic, driven it about 1000 miles all fine!!! I'll be the first to admit that this is in no way relevant to the autobox, can't explain it. But could be worth a try. Just reinforces the fact that our chosen cars a madder than a box of frogs:confused:

Thanks. Mine is a permanent loss of 4th, won't even attempt to engage when using tiptronic and if I use 'D' then it's F4 and "P0734 4th gear out of range" time.

I will let the gearbox guru have a looksie and see what he decides :)

Ok mate. Just thought you'd like to know. Hope it doesn't end up being expensive. Mike

From memory, the TCM monitors the the brake switch. Maybe the connection was good enough for the ABS ECU but not quite good enough for the TCM?
Is it worth me getting a Synergy 2a for my SE auto? I don't find performance bad for a diesel but I'd like a bit more torque lower in the rev range.

It's probably a sticking solenoid valve. The readings will be correct but the valve won't open. It makes sense that the TCM times out to avoid damage when this happens.

The synergy chip was like adding after burners! I started on setting 3 but the gear box didn't like that so had it on setting 2 until I had the problems. Loads of torque most notable when pulling the caravan, felt like it wasn't there. Now on settings 1 as we use the Jeep now to pull the tin tent. This gives a smooth drive and fuel economy is 36mpg ish generally upto 45 mpg on a long run, as we live in Yorkshire which is all hills I don't think that's bad. Used to be 30 upto 37 before the chip . Yours is a newer face lift model which has a different program on the auto (some intermediate speed sensor isn't there) so you could probably run a higher setting. Mike

I think there probably still is an issue, just not showing up at the moment. Going to change the atf fluid when the weathers better and get the auto electrician brother in law to plug it in to his all singing and dancing reader, see if we an get to the bottom of the issue. Currently it can sod off until it stops raining:)
