Waved my rally Freelander , the one hanging from a crane in my avatar, off to its new home near Chepstow. Decided I just couldn't justify keeping it as an expensive ornament on the drive and it really needed a full rebuild from top to bottom which I never had the time or space to do.

What did i do to my freelander today? I made a lrt-51-014 tool to remove my drives shafts from the final drive. If it works as well as I expect i`ll post a pic

Clocked that I have the rattle of death from the inlet manifold.

Oh well suppose it was only a matter of time, will clean out the rocker cover whilst it's off.

Must have been a wrench. I'm in the same boat - having to get rid of my 109 SSW.

Full service and a new sump gasket

Last year maybe as I still had aspirations for it , but this year I decided it was never going to get done and I was sick of looking at it. Luckily for me the new owner had been trying to track it down for a few years and basically snapped my hand off for it. He has the time and space to dedicate to it and said he will be sending regular updates including photos of the rebuilt that it desperately needs., which I will share with the forum when they arrive. I'm going to concentrate on getting my silver Td4 finished off, which means new seats, seat mounts, cut off switches and high level brake lights and it's MSA log book.

Not today, but 2 days ago I fitted my stainless steel EGR bypass, Mr Muscle'd and pressure washed the inlet manifold, swapped the loo roll crankcase breather for a BMW cyclone, changed the turbo vent filter and started on my silicone hoses.

Also had a major breakthrough! Had been having persistent problems with the 2 Amigo's, i.e. HDC & TC lights coming on. 99% of the time if I braked they would go out as I released the brake pedal so after reading the forums I decided to get an updated brake light switch and wiring harness. I also decided to leave off fitting this switch until I had plenty of time for an epic refitting struggle.

Also, my handbrake light didn't illuminate (bulb OK during ignition sequence). I stripped the rear console out to find the wire had come off the handbrake switch. Closed the spade terminal up and refitted for a £0 fix, brilliant. The massive and unexpected bonus was no more 2 Amigo's problems, without replacing the brake pedal switch! £30 "wasted" but will probably fit it anyway.

Oh, the biggy! New tyre valve dust caps. Very technical job but full instructions are available in the Rave manual :D:cool:

Today I changed all the filters in my Freelander 1 ES TD4 2002., I've had it from new and had no problems, until last week when I was coming back from Wales it struggled on the hills. I then noticed a bit of black smoke, so I pulled over to have a look under the bonnet ( which was a waste of time as I know nothing about engines) Anyway I nursed it back to London everything was okay until I got into traffic. Then the smoke really started, so I pulled over and called the AA. The guy found a split in the EGR hose and taped it up to get me home. The next day I went on the web and found the Landy Zone site which gave me confidence to do the job myself. It took me along time to clean out all the thick crud out of the manifold and ERG valve. I will post back when I put it all back together again, and let you if it starts. I would just like say this car has had a full service history, and apart from the oil filter none of the other filters were ever changed. The car has done 62000 miles.
Take care
Albert

today i have rewired some of the engine wiring , done some dash wiring and reconnected the rear end of my chassis loom , still loads more wiring to do !

You look like one of those scruffy Tratter boys wandered into here by mistake.

Make yourself welcome, would you like a hair cut while you're in here?

I'm sure it will work fine Albert. Well done for taking the plunge and rolling the sleeves up. I'm sure you'll get great satisfaction from it when you take it out on its test drive. Next you'll be installing lift kits, adding tuning mods and all sorts :)
