1/2 a bottle of mapgas, 2x cutting discs, two nights of soaking with PlusGas and finally they're off...A Frame, rear suspension and axle. What a job...every bloody nut and bolt covered in years of crud and rusted semi-solid. Ordered up new parts over breakfast this morning, clean up axle, A Frame and arms trow already to be blast media cleaned next week...then back home for a thorough repaint next weekend:)

Next to do on the list was the P gasket replacement!

Indulged in some more lockdown retail Therapy! Bought an Exmoor Trim cubby box on eBay. Mrs K will be pleased to get another Landy delivery too!

How one thing leads to another, was in Lidl just before house arrest started and picked up a set of pry bars for not much money.
Today finally got round to re-tensioning the power steering belt in prep for when I'm allowed to leave the house again.
Still squeals when putting on any lock. Plenty of fluid, no adjustment left on allen bolt, jacked up front end and steering is notchy as hell when going from r/h lock to l/h, ok the other way. Backed off adjustment a bit, no change :mad:
Recon steering box now on order.

id look at other stuff first unless pas box is over tight

Cleaned pigeon ****e off the roof 3 times today as the buggers like using my rack as a perch.
Think I might wire my spare 12v to the rack and see what happens

Gave the old girl a really through wash for the first time in ages - even used a toothbrush round the cappings! What should turn up but a nod to her 1985 heritage. The front roof reinforcing ribs are all stamped 109.

Thanks James, truth be told at 170.000miles the steering box is tired, last time I adjusted the box last autumn it was right up to limit but I did take out the play. Now got enough play in box to allow to wander a bit on the road and has become notchy.
As far as I know, everything else is good, bearings/preload/etc.

Defenders don't like full lock iirc, think I read that somewhere. My Defenderer has covered 210.000, the steering box was fine until I stuck stupid wheels and tyres on.

Yeah, shouldn't really be holding full lock on for more than a couple of seconds or so at a time was what I seem to remember. Trouble is I do use it to play about in off road, and it's often used on full lock to get round something.

The cubby box arrived. Mrs K was less than impressed at more Landy stuff being delivered! It’s sat in the garage, no chance of getting anywhere near it to fit it or even put tat in it!

Diagnosed clunk from front as completely knackered uj. (not been on that long) Not hard really once I got under and wiggled Completely buggered so off with the prop tomorrow. I assume I can still drive 2 wheel drive for short journeys?

Rebuilt the seizing clutch pedal box, replaced the dodgy master cylinder with an LOF powermaster and spent today pressure washing the Defender (and demossing it). Tomorrow might get the polisher out see if the paint can be brought back a bit.
Nice to have a biting point smack in the middle and a softer pedal again
