Drove into town today (30 mile round trip) to organise a blood test, filled up with 40 ltr diesel, last fill was a couple of months ago, recon that might last till March. Getting mildly bored with it all now, I want to go fishing.
Me too! It was flooded out madly when I could and now I’m not allowed lol. April is my light at the end of tunnel and hope come may I’ll be stood at the side of a chalkstream watching the mayfly hatch

Treated the 2honey to a cheeky service & then dropped it around to the local Landy whisperer for a cambelt and to finally fix my troublesome indicators...I have wasted too many hrs & lost too much sleep on mathematics

Spent the rest of the day praying to the Rot Fairies to be gentle with the imminent MOT

I take it from that, that your a southern softie fluff chucker. :):);)

Recently converted, yes!!! All by chance to be honest and when I found chalkstream fishing it was like I'd found heaven. All the fishing of the last say 10 years was mainly barbel.

You probably know all of this but a lot of the southern rivers have taken a beating. Pollution, poaching and otter conservation have turned rivers like the Bristol Avon from amazing barbel fishing to extremely hard work which I don't really have the time for - 90% of it is recon of fish location and I can't put the time to it (especially with two landies lol). The trent on the other hand, around Notts area is on fire. I also have to take the dog if I fish after dark as have run into poachers in past and thought I was going to end up nicked or battered and robbed!

In years passed, when I was on a river syndicate, the balliffs were as hard and scary as their dogs and you didn't really get poachers. Now, it seems only game keepers on exclusive stretches have control over the fishing and maintaining the river. It's really sad. Despite rod licence purchases increasing and even more money going to the EA, I haven't seen an EA balliff for 22 years and neither have any of my mates that fish. I think they're a myth now.

Nowadays if I want good barbel fishing I go to the Wye - not too bad as probably an hour and half drive and certainly worth it for the location and in my favourite spot I drive the landy through the farmers field right up to the bank. It's coded access and when the farmers have control over said access its good news!

I love the Wye but there's nothing like sight fishing for trout and hope to get my first salmon this year. This obviously comes at a premium though!! I couldn't do this if I didn't get a half decent pay cheque so I've no idea how kids will ever get into such fishing unless they are privileged.

Haven't got in much piking due to the river being in flood when I get the chance and now lockdown is restricting that.

We spoke a while back about a French fishing trip - I still have that in my sights and want both a sturgeon and some French barbel in some pretty places.

Disaster... bloody Fedex have delivered 1 out of 4 of my huge landrover parts order.

Got the new brake callipers which will be the last thing to go on.. got swivels to do pre that.

What i needed was the radiator and all the wiper parts so i could put it back together and clear the ramp for the weekend.

Got Misuss skoda to fix pre mot and sure knowing my luck the farm will want it for something..

Got Famous Four currently kicking the ass out of Fedex to find the missing 3 parcels

Might need to go and shoot something instead of working on landy..

We say we hate them so why do we get so excited opening new bits?!

nice shiny bits

what i did with my 110 was steer it as the farmer towed it off the ramp with the telehandler.

and put my new brake callip[ers in the back with the other parts waiting to be fitted...

So today I have mostly been sat like an expectant father...

Didn’t fancy taking on the cambelt change myself so took it to local whisperer. Bloody glad I did!

1st he had a bit of a scruff with the viscous fan. Found a shed load of oily Spooge in the cambelt casing & a tired belt. He had a bitch of a job getting the crank pulley off. Once that was off it became apparent that someone else had trouble previously & fecked the seal whilst trying. Rather than persist and finish the job the barstools just filled the engine with silicone and botched it back together

Glad I outsourced the job but am not looking fwd to the bill!

On a positive note he has finally nailed my bloody indicators...we came to the conclusion there was a dead short somewhere inside the chassis on the LH side circuit. Ran new wires from each corner... we are in business!... only with a Defender would the every day and perfectly ordinary occurrence of indicators flashing when the lever is operated make you grin like a schoolboy who found his dads stash!...

Now that sounds a proper bodge and lash up, sort of thing i would find when i have bought a project

cambelt varies on which engine you have

200tdi is a pain so much to remove

just done my 300tdi far easier, i have previosly got mates to do mine.

Have had mine on and off the 90 so mant times with my FIP issue have had to bite the bullet myself.

i normally now lock it up, strip it out get belt off and bits changed then get so belt is nearly on and if i cant get it on the pulleys ask the farmer or his son ( both former disco owners ) to pop it on. or one of my landy mates

Re the indicators i ran lives from front indicator to rear indicator to cure mine..

always lovely when they work when asked..

You should try fixing the lights on farm trailers, that s is very infuriating, normally in a field with failing light and a load u daren't leave overnight

Oh I hear you...I planned to sort the lights and Brakes on our Livwstock trailer once the old girl is MOT’d

Now I will have to work on plucking up not courage and funds to complete that project

Livestock trailer...oh dear

anything used or kept by our stock dept is normally fecked...grease gun probably lost in a calfing box, be lucky if our stock dept remembered to put diesel in the tractor, everything held together with bail twine and covered in cow ****..

Good luck with that

Twot that I am I had forgoton all about your French barbel.
Back in the 70's I used to fish the B Avon for barbel, mainly Limply Stoke and Laycock, had some good fish for the times. Also fished the upper Thames a lot, middle and lower Severn, W Avon, Wye, and spent most of the 90's and early half of 2000 on the Teme. The Teme remains my first love for barbel though I understand the barbel are not present in the numbers they were when I fished it.
Barbel fishing in France is rather different as it is pretty well all virgin water in comparison to UK river systems, rare to see another angler = no bait going in = more natural fish stocks. Easy to catch, but a 5lb fish I would class as a specimen. Basically double the weight to compare with UK sizes.

Well I had a feeling it wouldn’t go swimmingly so purposely went food shopping before I started the work. Upon shock removal, I soon discovered some **** had actually mullered the shock mount thread. It must’ve been actually difficult to fcuk the thread that bad. New mounts on order. Car stood until Tuesday, never mind I have food and beer and am locked down lol
