I pulled a Volvo out of there with my Focus a couple of years ago. BMW X5 stuck in the middle with his window down last year. Also came across someone with some sort of Kia, bailing it out with a bucket, that was also last year.Bucklebury Ford, made famous by J.R. Tolkien in The Hobbit. Bucklebury was the chief village of Buckland leading to the River Brandywine. Brandywine was crossed at the Bucklebury Ferry leading to the Marish. And infamous amongst us locals as a short cut to the pub...

If you're planning a visit do not do what this fellow did some while back...and what many others do

That's a good result. The 90 is sorted.. It was an oil cooler pipe which had come off. The fittings have been replaced and it’s ok. I’m happy!

I always laugh to myself when I see someone stuck in there.Back in the late 90's we were walking from home to The Pot Kiln for lunch via the ford. There, stranded mid-ford at full depth was a DB7 Volante in sh!t green [not the sublime Aston Sage]. The driver was a balding fellow with dark dyed hair-cum-comb over of the too much gold and shiny shoe variety. Beside him was an early twenties blonde of the type one would not take home to meet the parents. Both were looking thoroughly ****ed off...him because of the hydraulically locked engine and impending bank balance emptying garage bill, her because she'd have to get her shoes wet. We didn't stop to ask if they'd called the AA, but we did laugh all the way to the pub...all the way through an extended lunch and all the way back home.
They were still there when we strolled back some 3.5hrs later...

It's not as if it doesn't have a prominent depth marker board.
That boxer engine will never dieI'm always cautious crossing the ford, even in the Ninety with raised air intake and Gwyn Lewis breathers to the upper bulkhead. Over the years have seen two Defenders come unstuck there where the drivers went in far too fast with std air intake. The car that always surprises me at its wading ability is my 19 year old Subaru Forester...they're quite amazing things.
