Queried my insurance and replaced 4x 255/55 18 all season tyres now need a nap ,😴😴

D2 Alternator has been intermittent recently (according to the voltmeter hanging of the dash - fitted by previous owner, probably due to alternator fault) so I've got a solar panel plugged in permanently. Seems to be working ok so far!
Is it massive hassle to replace? (the alternator not the solar panel)
Garages want £500 so I'm guessing it's not an insignificant piece of work.
On a V8, not a big deal as it's on top of everything.
On a TD5... well, it's a whole other thing...

No not a difficult job if you're handy with (the few) spanners needed. You'll need to remove the viscous coupling fan which is the only 'special' spanner you need. I believe Halfords sell them + online obviously.

Not done it on a D2 but with decent access it should not be that difficult.
Disconnect battery first, have decent selection of metric spanners and take your time.
You may have to loosen the tensioner first to get belt off but again this is fairly straight forward.
Have a browse of the site, it probably on here somewhere.
 
Lives another day, the V6 lion engine decided to try and eat the auxiliary belt tensioner on the D3 caught this just in time.

Opportunity to get the massive spanners out again to remove the fan.

New belt and tensioner fitted.

127,803 miles.

I went out this morning to replace the last couple of flexible brake pipes on the 101 but ended up removing the battery to place it on charge as it went flat after about five seconds of cranking.
:(
 
Replaced the gear stick centering plate and springs, i can now select 3rd and 4th with ease.
Also replaced the rubber bung that caps off the pipe that's under the turbo with a nice new silicone one so no mere weeping coolant.

Took the sump off for a reseal as it was leaking like a cow. Found an 8mm socket (not mine!) and this metal piece, which I was wondering if anyone knows whether it looks like something out of a 300tdi or just some rubbish.

I was driving my 300tdi in town last year and some teenager dropped his cigarette and said its a fecking cool car. I think it just looks like a wreck though
Well, one bloke said, 'I haven't seen one that clean in many years' and another said, 'I had Disco one back in the 90's awesome vehicles' he asked if he could sit in it.
