I gave my old girl her Annual wash whether she need on or not, as the MOT is due on Thursday and she scrubbed up just fine , no more green moss in the roof gutter or on the window seals, and the black trim on the wheel arches,

a few weeks ago I was away, and I stopped at a Motor home dealer , I asked one of the staff what they used to clean the big motor home as they were sparkling, , they uses this to remove the Traffic film it works out at 100ml per 4 ltrs of water, but you can dilute if more depends on how dirty you car is, power wash the car, then apply the Traffic film remover, the wash off, I got 25 ltr container for £30

I also got, this shampoo, the mix it 50 mtr per 5 ltrs of water but in a 5 ltr container for £15 , all in just short of £50, and Im very pleased with the result , I called them up and the met the local agent to collect my order as they cant send it by curries

Hmmmm.... Ive just been watching a few youtube vids around chopping the whole rear chassis out.. Its do able, and possibly the best option.

I'll take a look at how far back its affected. Then decide. Im not sure my welding skills extend to a full replacement. Now, a cut blob, grind and paint.. thats ok...
 
Well, Ive been round and seen my friendly welder, who is also a Discovery owner/fanatic. If I drop the tank, chop off the rusted chassis, and prepare it, he will weld it up for me... He's a trained MOT inspector and fabricator, and restores buses to museum standards. Looks like the rear 1\4 is coming off... Any recommendations for a supplier ??
 
I simply measured from the centre of the rear body mount bolt hole on the new frame to the end of the new chassis, did the same on the car using the bolt hole in the body, Minus 100 MM, that was the final cut off point, once that was cut off it took no more than a hour to fit it up bolt up the two read body mounting bolts 'G' clamp the joint, I did also before fitting drill 6 holes in the new chassis end, 3 on each side, to spot weld up for extra strength
 
Discovered (!) that the front N/S wheel bearing had let go, no warning - just a sudden grumbling noise from under the passenger seat this morning while on a gentle trundle to the shops. Jacked up and the wheel has plenty of play and the driveshaft has a lot of float.

My suspicion is my groovy new brakes have increased the load on the worn bearing and it’s surrendered…

Traffic film remover is the stuff all the pros use. Many of them use it on the interior too!!:eek::eek::eek:

Well I got on with shoving the coolant stop leak stuff into the system as I am short of time and in France 10 minutes from civilisation, by car, and this is our only car at the mo!
The leak seems to be coming from the pump and it is running at about 500 ml per 600 miles odd. Not good but liveable with as long as it doesn't get any worse on the journey back to Blighty at the end of next week.
I'll pick up a new pump in the UK and then either fix it there or bring it back here with me.
Also changed the aux drivebelt possibly pointlessly.
I noticed the ridged inner had splits every few mm but was otherwise whole. Britpart fitted 36K ago.
Was I panicking over nothing?
Anyway changed it for my spare, Gates.

refitted the new hi/lo selector cable, riveted in the centre plate, and fitted the centre console. Took out the fag lighter socket and fitted a USB twin socket and voltmeter. Then realised I forgot to connect the breathers on the transfer and gear box....
