Fixed the glow plugs not working by disconnecting and reconnecting the relay.

I had it in at the workshop for an injection pump change as it was leaking and it would start very difficult. It doesn't leak anymore and starts better but still not quite there. They blamed it in the glow plugs as the engine "starts well when warm but not from a cold start". It's summer....

What I suspect it being is diesel flowing back into the tank as I can hear some gulps after switching the engine off.

Anybody know what could fix this? Could it have anything to do with the lift pump?
 
Finally got myself another Disco with a tidy chassis and only done 119k. Just need to give it a tidy up as it's lived in a barn for the past few years.

Very nice addition, congratulations! Always such a nice feeling getting one with a good chassis. It's nice to be able to just maintain and take care of it, instead of patching up or spending loads after someone else's neglect.

Absolutely. Saw so many rot box's that I was convinced I'd have to break my budget to get one. Luckily past two owners were enthusiasts :)
 
Adjusted valve clearance on the 300TDi today... valves 7 and 8 were a few millimeters off! It sounds much better now but I still have to change the vacuum pump and go through the valves again at some point since they were so far off.

Cleaned her of all the farm muck/smell that had built up, fitted LED sidelights and ordered some new Insa Turbo AT tyres (18” wheel tyre options are 💩😏).

Also found out she won’t fit into car parks with height restriction bars🙄. Forgot how quickly people move their cars when a Landy is reversing at them😂
 
Compressor and reservoir replacement today, in doing so I have put a C1A35-01 fault code on it. Vehicle operates as should be but lowers and rises very slowly.

Any assistance to what I have done is much appreciated.

Cleaned up the handbrake drum and shoes, and fitted a new rear seal. Handbrake cable fitted as well. Power is restored thanks to a new MAF, however, the handbrake seems to be binding, and heats up the drum .... Rain storm today means I'll sort it in the week. Just hope it is binding, and nothing else...
 
Does it stop binding when you back off the h/b adj. bolt on the drum ? Sometimes you get wear on the adjuster part that contacts the shoes (which the bolt screws into), if so it's worth getting a kit & replace it but get genuine as the Britpart kit I got had the thread lock in the wrong place on the adj. bolt so it kept coming undone every mile or so resulting in no handbrake.
 
Thats what I need to sort out.... I'll back it right off, and do a test drive. No heat on the drum means it was binding... then set it up.
Interesting about the adjuster....
 
Pics if the Sh1tpart bolt, tiny amount at the bottom & genuine with plenty of it & in the right place.

Drums not binding..... but theres an awful bearing noise coming from the rear of the transfer box, and its leaking oil again.... I did gun up the rear 30mm nut on the flange, so might have done that myself.

Can the rear output bearing be replaced with the transfer box in situ, or is it a box out job....

This is what the LR manual says "the rear o/p shaft is supported IN the housing by a single bearing". As you can do the rear housing gasket in situ it's worth a bash to see if you can do the bearing as well, best of luck & let us know.

Changed the oil & filter then replaced the bulbs in the driving lamps & parking light bulbs in the headlamps (I had one parking light & one driving lamp blown) ready for Billing at the weekend.

Fitted some Insa Turbo AT’s, LED sidelights, wiper’s, retainer clips for the front grille, rubber matting from rear to under 2nd row seats (previous owner had ply board down) and installed a dash cam.

Basic’s sorted, chassis clean and re-treatment next…
 
Today I disconnected the battery and will leave it disconnected overnight in the hope it will clear my D3 engine fault limp mode issue by magic!
 
Had my auto D2 TD5 remapped (stage 1) by Alive on Saturday at Billing, drove home today & it feels so much better, it's lost that flat feeling, pulls stronger than before & and if I'm not mistaken smoother, like others have said it should have left the factory in this state of tune. Also picked up a couple of outer 'wood' air vents (£2 each) that match the doors & center console it came with, had to make some new foam gaskets to fit them as they disintegrated when I removed the old vents.

Came back from weekend camping trip in heavy rain, to have water ingress onto driver’s seat despite the sunroof’s being sealed by previous owner🙄. Noticed from up top that the front sunroof wasn’t closed the same as rear so it now has had black silicone applied to see if it happens again…

On a positive note she managed a small river crossing without any drama and hill descent also works😁.

Finally got my arse into gear and fitted the replacement rear seal on the transfer box, again. Seems the ring that protects the seal, thats pressed onto the flange came loose, and it was wearing the seal... Luckily I had the old one to put on.... Greased up the seal and cap with red grease, and she's a gud un....
