No one seems to be planning any trips to places like Morocco or even Portugal. What's happen, or am I looking in the wrong place.

You're not wrong Mike. For a forum with 115,000 members you would expect a bit more expedition activity.

Maybe they're all using Alas overland or trailmasters as I have had only one taker (thank you James & Sarah) for the trips I have offered here in the past.

For this year I am joining 'Spanish4x4.com' for a weeks offroading 24th to 31st May. Feel free to join us.

SCANDINAVIA in May
ICELAND in September
USA in 2018 to see the old beast off.

Why own a defender if you don't let it off the lead???

Why is adventurism exclusive to Defender owners? Or does driving an uncomfortable, unreliable vehicle add something to the illusion?

Well on my last trip the 80 series cracked its front axle and support bracket and a few days earlier lost all its ATF fluid and had to be left for a while in a remote location so it was lucky my Defender was there to assist.

Hi Mike,
I'm up for another trip somewhere. Been a tad busy of late, but the old motor is still in good shape and ready to go again.
Cheers

I've travelled to many places, but now I've had enough, there are plenty of places in the UK I haven't been, where beer is available or cheaper. The police and everyone else doesn't need bribing. I can understand a menu and what people are saying. If all else fails I can call the RAC, or an ambulance...

I would like to do the Morocco Atlantic side at some point. or failing that Spain/Portugal. Are you tied to any specific dates.

i've often dreamed of touring europe

it seems the best thing is to go with a pre planed company who organises these

would be an ambition of mine to take a trip like this

alas though would have to have my dogs with me , that's another question and nightmare concerning dog passports

one day and live in hope

I'd love to go with others, but living here in France, freinds I have with interest in off roading are either in the UK or always seem to have work comitments.
I suppose I'm lucky,as I'm self employed,so,when I want to go,I just pack the truck & off I go.
Marc.

There is no problem taking your dogs,it's very straight forward going through customs with them.
Everywhere in Europe is much more dog freindly the the UK.So you can take them on all campsites, most hotels & restaurants.
Just go for it.
Marc.

being a widower they've become great company

seeing i now own a D3 feel that it will be capable in doing the european off road events

been researching through the advice etc in what i need to do ref the dogs etc and there passports

got a decent tent so that doesn't bother me, also as there's quite a bit of room on the disco feel it would be any hardship to kip in there overnight

has been an ambition for so many years , the kids are all grown up and married so it's just me and the dogs

would be just a fantastic adventure and one that i know i must do, its only the funds that hold me back

imagine a trip across europe would be at least 5k

Hi Stuart
I'd say you could have a great European trip for a fraction of that.
Especialy if your camping.

been looking through so many different companies

it would be fine with me to rough it for the entire trip

hopefully stopping off so could at least have a shower here or there , making me feel human again

don't know how much prep the disco would need maybe a raised snorkel and sump guards

would be such a great trip, pleasing myself and having a great laugh along the way

Off road prep would depend on which routes you were looking to do.
I have done routes all over Northern Portugal, Spain & Pyrenees that you could easily do in a Disco 3 with no mods at all.
Have a look at,Picos de Europa.Bardenas Reales,& Val d Arran.
That is a great trip in itself.

Once you have your doggy passport its no problem. My friend used to take his dog to Morocco every year. He wouldn't go without him. The dog used to keep all the Moroccans away. Best security you can have.
