Im now aware of 3 buyers who have purchased freelanders with no props, surely people research before they buy a vehicle they know nothing about.
One of these buyers is a mate who couldn't be bothered to ask for advice or more likely to pig headed.
Now hes spent 3k on a td4 and when I saw it did reverse on full lock test which was very smooth ..looked under..no prop..driving it theres a knocking from front all be it not bad but I reckon ird shot.
Any one on here just had a freelancer...go look under ya car for a prop...cause if aint got one you've got load expense coming your way and treat this site like ya bible...its got all the answers

Thank you for yet another informative and well written post

My Freelander was purchased with no prop, and it has cost me

Prop £20
Bearings £40
New fluid £25

Plus a bit of welding wire and time to rebuild it so let's say £90 including the consumables

Not what I'd call a load of expense, been quite cheap actually

Well, that was a bit smug.

nearly all the time the props removed as theres major probs with the vcu ..ird or rear diff...prop with good vcu for 20 quid..????? ...

^^^^^^^ don't be so hasty, get out there and do the one wheel up test ! Unlikely prop was removed because vcu bearings were noisy!!

No, prop with an unknown vcu for £20 from u pull it, hence the bearings and fluid to refurb it, I know the history of mine and why the prop was removed, 62k so no issues with the rest of the drivetrain

Just out of interest, how many freelanders have you owned/ driven? Must be quite a few, if you know what happens most of the time. Unless of course you are credulous enough to believe what people post about vehicles on the internet? :D

obviously stupid enough to buy it..stupid enough to put prop back on..20 quid...prob scrapper...

You really really really need to read before you reply, £20 prop (as that is what they charge) and the stuff to refurb it

Very far from a scrapper, it's a low mileage looked after car

This is true, if there's no prop then a buyer would do well to be wary.

I do find it quite amazing how many people buy a vehicle without doing some basic research and we get a steady stream of people who have sadly had the wool pulled over their eyes.

I may be the exception then, mine had the same owner from 2006, then the HG went in 2015, it was parked for 9 months and as it was a low miles looked after one the prop was removed to fix a newer but higher mileage one

I refurbed the vcu as per several threads on here and have had it on for about a month with no issues, both on and off road

have you not read thru this site...how many tales of woe over the vcu...no course not..if you had you wouldn't been stupid enough to buy one with no prop...why think it was taken off..oooh...cause seller told you it did more miles to gallon..i had mine with 68k on clock had vcu replaced part of the deal....now I ran around for 3 weeks no prop..handled like crap on islands...and did 3/4 mpg more from full tank..then you buy a scrapper to refurb..what...then you get smug with me as im trying to warn others about prop shaft being on the car they buy....hope ya ird blow:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::):)s up...lol

I dont normally lower myself to the levels of trolls such as you, but you sir are an idiot.

I bought a £20 (scrap if you will) VCU

THEN I REBUILT IT, WITH NEW SILICONE FLUID AND NEW BEARINGS, AS PER THE EXCELLENT POSTS ON THIS FORUM

And its been on my car for a month without issues

Not sure if that is aimed at me, as you dont bother to quote, but are you being serious? What do I want to read about freelanders for! :D
Better things to do with my life! :D
