My driver, Jim, arrived just after four. He'd been a LR mechanic for 28 years at Stratstone Land Rover main dealers in Newcastle. Packed in a year ago. He asked why I was replacing them? I showed him the collapsing joint. He said, i bet there was no wear on the splines. I confirmed that and said i was impressed at the mileage it had done. He said the props would be fine and i should have just changed the joint. :rolleyes:
Anyway they're on.

Took for a spin up the street and it's nice and smooth. I need fuel so it'll get a longer and faster run tomorrow.
It's Friday night, so red wine time now :)
 
Did a high speed test (lol) tonight. There's a straight stretch, of about a mile, not far out of the village and she flew up to 60 super smooth. I didn't realise I was going that fast at first. Got on the A1 and she sat nice and smooth at 60, quieter too. I can't remember it being this good for a long, long time. I reckon the UJ going is pretty recent so I think the slight vibration and noise I'd become accustomed to must be due to the props slowly losing balance. They're 25yrs old and the balance weights welded on have rusted away to next to nothing. Very pleased with the results, which I wouldn't have got if I'd just replaced the UJ's. :)
