Hello all,
I'm new to the Landrover world, and only picked up my 2nd hand Freelander yesterday.
There's a few things I'd like to do to it like change the cd player for starters.
But I'm sure theres other things that may crop up...

Question is, what type of freelander do I have?
I've had a little look found the forums and found little bits of info here n there but nothing definitive.

Heres what I do know, it's a 1.8 Petrol, manual gears, 3 door, hard top (that comes off, reg starts HV03, the stereo is a single din CD/Radio with Landrover written on it, no cd changer under the seat.

Is there anything more I can tell you to help?

Alough my 1st upgrade will be the stereo, i know from owning a BMW years ago and their model numbers being more important that the badges on the back when it comes to getting parts that fit.

From what I can tell from browsing the forum, and I could be way off.. LoL
I think it's a pre facelift. But is that what's referred to as a Freelander 1 here?
Is there more to narrow it down further?

On the subject of the stereo, I've seen there's freelancers with a BMW made stereo, double din, cd changers under the seat....

What I do know is mine is a single din cd player with Landrover written on it and no cd changer under the seats.
I think I've seen a post with the BMW stereo and mine dosent look like that.

Yes I think so, but without the nice spotlights and roofbars. ;)

Also, The back of my roof looks like it can clip off, it's not fabric, looks like it comes off in one go, and the back window is electric.

My sunroof isn't electric, it's two glass panels that just tilt up with a little clip thing.

Why, thank you :)

it's a hard back and can be removed

your sunroof is made of two panels that can also be removed. when new it would've had a special bag in the car to put them in all safe like.

if it looks like mine at the front it is a pre-facelift ;)

Yep standard Iso connectors on them. plug n play. Keep the headunit when you replace it so you can keep your shiny one.

i don't know what that means matey

i don't mess around with the stereo much as i'm too busy mending the car tbh :(

Looks like the same stereo I had in mine, also a 03 plate Serengeti. Original stereo out, after market stereo in. No problems.

Thanks Freelander and thanks DuncanS

Yes I'll store the old one, I've got the code in the book here just incase.
Looks like standard stereo key removal holes aswell.
I can't be that lucky right? Iso is iso right... The plugs should fit then, but no switching wires round nothing?

When ordering parts it is sometimes vital that the VIN is known, yours should start with 3A then about six numbers.
If you pm me your reg number I can look your car up on Microcat for full build spec' and build date.

Pm sent Longdog....

You guys have made my night,

Today I tried an mp3 cd in the head unit, knowing it may not work.
It did display something like 'cd rom' on the LCD and a timer counting up.
But no sound.

This time tomorrow I'll have Blutooth hands free phone, music from my phone and DVD playing head unit.
Got two here (some place) boxed up taken out from my old cars as suggested above ;)

Happy days.
