My whole exhaust system is rotting and will soon need replacing on my 1995 Defender 300tdi CSW 110.

I am considering the expensive stainless steel route. I'd like to increase mpg and unlike some I don't want noise!

What are the advantages of stainless apart from longevity, and what systems are recommended (and for what reason)?

If there's a good thread on this already (i bet there is!), I haven't found it!

thanks.

Around town I'm getting 27-27.5 sometimes close to 28 without trailer. long steady runs at 55/60 mph with sankey and maggiolina I'm getting 28-29, haven't done a long run without trailer!

That's it, nothing apart from longevity from a bit of stainless steel pipe.
I have a £300 Janspeed stainless exhaust which has been designed and manufactured for increase performance for my petrol engine which it does nicely and without any extra noise, fitting a stainless "performance exhaust" to 300 Tdi would do sod all even if you could find one that fits which is doubtful.

Or as i said on the other forum buy a std exhaust and tweak the injection pump this will give you the same sound and more power, i have just done this to mine but fitted a std new down pipe, straight through middle pipe and no silancer's and it now goes like fook but i wanted the noise :D
