TPS on my Ford diesel had a slight crack and I was getting weird behaviour. Took it off (3 small bolts, mounted above throttle pedal). Opened it up, dried it with heat and cleaned everything with isopropyl alcohol, reassembled with a tiny smear of silicone gasket in the cracked bit and between the halves. Been running fine since, which is about 4 years. Before had really bad hunting, failure message on dash and occasional drop into limp mode, usually whe pulling onto a busy roundabout!

Been thinking about my predicament and looking at the head gasket i have ready to go on..
The only way exhaust gas can get into the coolant, is via #1 or #7 where the coolant goes on/out of the head is that right? I'm having cold misfire issues with #3 :(

Worst case scenario crack in cylinder wall behind liner into water jacket.
Pressure test the block.
Sometimes with the liners fitted pressure test will be ok and crack will only show when liners removed.
I personally don't know if the liners are an interference fit and have to be pressed in - if they are then that would likely cure a small crack in the block.

If a liner is loose it will be slapping against the head and will leave a clear indentation in the cylinder head.

If they are floating liners like on the mgf that can be taken out and slid in by hand then a new liner probably would not cure it.

The mgf liners rely on a thin bead of blue hylomar on the flange of the liner to stop any coolant getting past.

Quick question: anyone ever been charged for 'sundries' when getting a job done?
Sundries being copper slip ,,cutting discs, lubricant to remove nuts and a couple of other things. I know they'll work it in to the price usually, but I've never been charged for them as a separate group.
