Got all the stuff off so I could get to the FIP to re-time it. The bottom bolt at the back of the pump is a PITA.
It's amazing what one finds when things like the inlet manifold are removed, I found a 4mm thick wire connected to number 6 glow plug, the other end was coiled up with the bare end resting on the brake pipes (it's a left hooker). Amazing that it had not shorted out and blown the glow plug fuse. Naturally the top broke off the glow plug when I tried to undo the nut:rolleyes: C'est la vie, it's always been a lumpy starter from cold so I was going to replace the glow plugs anyway. I left the remains in place, it should start on 5 plugs assuming most of the remaining 5 are working.
Got the FIP re-timed, just got to put it all back together and see if it will start:rolleyes:
I found that adding a bolt to the pin that goes into the flywheel made it easier to insert through the rusty hole.

Sods law!!

That kind of fúckwittery shouldn't be let near an engine...

I'm sure it'll fire, my TD5 can fire with only 3 of the 5 plugs working..

Tested and fixed bonnet switch as alarm kept going off when sun hit car. Alarm not going off anymore but suspension inactive now. Tried steering lock but no joy. Think it is hard fault.
Should have kept p38 with lead and EAS suite. Hindsight is a bigger.
RSW on pay day then.

Here's our pooch, he's a rescue dog that had been ill treated, he's the nearest I could get to a Border Collie. He's too smart!View attachment 208575 View attachment 208598
Oh that's a handsome boy. It is nice rescues get a second chance at life. Maddy is a rescue and she is smart enough that she can open doors, either push or pull. It is very annoying. Had to start locking the front door all of the time so she can't escape. It is weird watching her workout a problem, like we added a babygate to the bottom of the stairs and you can see her studying the lock mechanism, it is only a matter of time before I wake up to her in my bed.

Hooch says thanks for the compliment. He has a different strategy, he has worked out that he can dictate the time at which things should happen, like he's on our case when he thinks it's time for the chicken house to be shut or if he wants a door opened, he thinks we are the servants. He doesn't always get his own way! He's very affectionate, I suspect as a result of the ill treatment. He's still terrified of brooms though, apparently he was beaten with a broom, that's why his tail had to be amputated.

It wasn’t today ...
But i got this thing and am now figuring out
What is the right mounting for me....

Well no abs sensors yet.
Still went ahead and picked up the bm I bought to use when my air suspension failed since it had been at the paint man for a low budget paintjob.
First time it's been decent rain here since iv had the rangie got a wee squirm from back end looks like rear left wheel either the camber or rear toe is off.
Ordered for both sides camber arm bolts and bushes for top and bottom of hubs and also the toe control arm.
Just left her at the workshop and took the yobbish toy home.

There was some stuff on TV about a French family touring with a rig like that on a P38.
I'd love to do that to ours
Choice between a trail or tent or a roof top tent. When you watch some of these vids on YouTube about overlanding its amazing some of the ideas and products available.
I could sit and watch these things for hours... Or go out and get stuck In mud...
The latter sounds more fun.

If I was younger, the idea of a roof tent would be quite interesting, as it is, we have the tin tent trailer.

The trailer allows you drop gear and off-road. That was my thinking.
Also for carrying tools and shock absorbers  mostly just shock absorbers...
I imagine overlanding in Africa a trailer would be a bit of a liability. Safer from predators up high too. It's all academic for me, too old for that sort of stuff now:(

You should see some of the trailers available for overlanding. They are amazing, on some of the 4wd action videos they are dragging them through the forest and over rocks. Mega money.
