Bought a used tank bracket (mine has had it) cut out a corroded section and welded in a new piece. treated for rust and will paint tomorrow,weather permitting.

Anyway have decided to think seriously about getting a, er, um, Disco V8 manual monofuel no lpg.
Don't care much how old it is but it must be sound structually and mechanically, well the chunkier bits anyway.
Not bothered about scratches or minor upholstery blemishes or the odd dent or two. Am going to do some softcore greenlaning with a close friend who is secretary of our local club.
Spent a day on Salisbury Plain - very enjoyable it was too.
So what I did on Saturday last was go and look at a V8, it was only 16 miles away and was described in glowing terms.
It was so bad I didn't even bother to test drive it. It had an MOT but Stevie Wonder was on shift that day.
Anything from a cracked headlight glass to front brake discs that had only an inch of swept surface on both of their inner faces.
The big walkaway came when the engine was started and a sound very much like a cracked piston skirt eminated from around no 1 or 3 which quietened when the motor warmed up a bit.
And the rest - fairly tidy and presentable generally, leather all good and then the load carpet was lifted in the luggage compartment to reveal a line of holes across the floor about a foot in towards the back seat.
The remote locking didn't work and the lock barrel on the drivers door connected to.....nothing.
The vehicle was at the stage in its' life where it goes one way or the other - it could be taken on by someone who has the knowledge, time and passion (and resources) to make it good again - or it will almost certainly have a short one way life to you know where. The dealer wanted around £1650 for it and he was desperate for me to make him an offer.
I've thought about the car since and all I could offer in reality would be about £500 absolute tops. Provided it drove alright, of course.
I very much like projects - no, not the ones where the owner spends two and a half years just doing the welding - but the ones where a few weekends of graft produces a safe, sound usable machine.
Basically then it did have potential but only at the right price from the get-go - I could even pop the sump and lefthand head off and retrieve the errant piston for not a lot of money.
But £500 - I can't see the dealer taking such a hit - but then again who'll want it? The offer to make an offer was made about 53 seconds after our arrival.
Sorry forgot to say it had done 103k, 1994 and had two owners, two keys, handbooks and was in like a Niagara Grey with colour matching 16" alloys, reasonably shod with no budgets on. Full leather, caramel and working a/c.
Apart from the piston slap, the engine started readily and was smooth with no smoke, the coolant was up to the mark and odourless and the engine oil was cleanish as was the oil filter. Chassis good and generally the car hadn't been messed with.
The clutch was light.


I might have to make that phone call............

Apart from the postage stamp sized holes in the load area, it was quite sound - I took a torch with me and rolled around underneath the thing because Discos are known for the ferrous oxide outbreaks.:eek:

Friday, I finally start my physiotherapy, over three months after I was almost (and there's no doubt about it) killed simply closing a gate at work. My wife has ordered some electro magnetic therapy thingy for me as she see's how close to tears I am most days with the sheer amount of pain I am in 24/7. I do my best not to complain, but some days I have to tell I can't do this or that :(

Other days, the tears are because I just cant imagine how I made it out alive or how close my son came to it when a few days before, he was right there with me... I used to scoff at those giving it "ooh, I am suffering because I almost died!" However, now I know it's for real and I will think twice before judging someone :confused:

Anyway, I am looking forward to the magnet stuff, it may negate the fact I am currently a fanny magnet...... If there is a fanny out there, they currently make their way to me and make my life a misery :p:D

Ahh, I get you. Nope, it was a two tonne gate, part of a pair, made from 6 inch box and two inch box. 20 years old and turns out it had been damaged not too long previously by an errant wagon driver....

Fitted a second aerial in parallel with the first. Made the reception worse so unplugged it!

My suspicion is that they are lowering the power of certain channels in order to get the DAB channels in, so as they boost digital stations power they're reducing analogue to stop interference.
 
Pumped the tyres up as they were a little flat so the misses could chauffer me to the hospital as cant drive at the moment due to eye infection a cant see a lot with out my lenses:(

re covered and fitted new headllining well pleased with result, bought kit from Martrim (no connection) plenty of material and plenty of glue. excellent value I thought
 

Funny, I woke up yesterday morning with my right eye red, watering and a gritty feel. Went to Boot's and got some stuff. It's pretty much cleared up. Think I may have got a tiny splash back while emptying the caravan latrine which had been forgotten about...:oops: Was rank, but only fluid. Half filled it with detergent & water. It's the only thing I did that could have caused an issue :eek: Lucky it wasn't worse but I did clean my hands thoroughly o_O
 
Reminds me of 'Cloot', a deodorant made entirely out of herbs n spices found only on a Caithness midden, the juices are 'tramped' oot o them by bare feeted wimmin whilst singing the traditional tramping song,,,,,,,"Hurry on, Hurry on, these nettles are killing me":p
