Do you know what? I'm still driving it and the temperature guage sits on 12 o'clock unless going serious beans or really working hard (towing). I love the viscous: it works perfectly and seems pretty bullet-proof. Also, I like the idea of mechanical rather than electrical for reliability. New one should be here Tuesday.

I guess if really stuck I could loctite the viscous so it is constantly driven. Any draw-backs to that?

Lock the viscous and it will shed blades at high engine revs. The viscous is less reliable than electric judging by the failures reported on here and the mod makes a very good back up for safety.

Scratch that idea then! It still turns, it is just that you can stop it with a newspaper. As I say, unless you're doing motorway speeds or really working the engine hard it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Considering the car is 20 years old I don't think it has done badly. I wonder how many were broken by the owners trying to get them off?!
 
Decided I really need to get the aircon sorted out. Gotta hunt for a replacement condenser.

Me too, stuck on the M1 for 8 hours last wednesday with no aircon was no fun. I replaced the condenser last year but it's my receiver / dryer thats leaking now. Got one off the bay for a bargain but they look a PITA to fit.

At motorway speeds, ram air should provide more than enough cooling with no help from the fan, crawling in traffic and hills or towing is when the fan is usually needed especially when it's 36c as it is here at times:)

Missed your Jeep but saw the teddy. Great day out. Little one wants to go again next year so that's one weekend booked!
 
Viscous fan replaced.

Didn't buy a Land Rover one but an OEM one. The original looks about 20 years old and was Land Rover. Notice the original had 10 fins but the new one has 11 fins. Also, the original had 4 bolts but the OEM one has 4 rivets. Also, it might be me but I don't think the OEM one is quite so balanced when spinning. Works fine though. Impossible to get the temperature above 12 o'clock again although it was a bit cooler this evening!

Got mine back from local paint specialist who has had it for the last 3 days.
Ful paint correction, detailed & Polymer sealed.
Looks incredible now.

No, not ****part! The OEM one from Island.

Today I might have done a silly thing...! Sold it, poor old girl gone to a new owner. Not all bad though her first job is to tow a rally car down for rebuild so once again out saving cars!

 
Ran out of fuel :eek:, thankfully right next to petrol station. :) Gauge is playing up as it said I had a quarter of tank left.

I always fill to the brim and reset the trip, I know I have a minimum of 400 miles before the next fill. I gave up trusting gauges years ago.
 
Someone's nicked one of my hub-caps! That or it has suddenly decided to let go. Grrrrrr.
