Lacquer degradation is quite common, a layer of wax now and them will slow down the clearcoat destruction.
My roof is original paint, admittadly the area ahead of the sunroof is slowly going white.
Nowt a repaint won't sort

Loved my Calypso Red beemer, needed a decent scrub n polish to look good though
