So for a chump like me, about a day. These things are all on hold until I take a week off next month to do all of the bits and bobs that need doing but will render my car inoperable. Such as the heated seats, fixing front bumper, replace steering damper, touching up paint work, etc.
Yes, I saw you've got kiddywinks, they usually won't walk 5 miles. The time of your shifts is no excuse though, when I was unlucky enough to pull daft shift work I still walked it. Wasn't so bad in the summer as there was some sun light, but in winter I went to work in the dark and came home in the dark.
But I'd recommend a petrol for town driving. Derv engines aren't efficent when driven around town and the DPF causes a lot of harm to the lungs. Although coughing up chunks of soot pre-DPF days looked grim, at least you coughed it all up. The DPF makes the soot so small it is hard to see, but also hard to cough back up when you breath it in.
