Got offered good money by the previous owner for his one back.
Considering it had had a new front corner on it by him before seemed the most appropriate action.
Heres the new one

Started to pull the heads off the 2000 Vogue we bought this week.

Waterless coolant in it, which is coming straight out, we only use OAT coolant in our V8's.

Manifold heat shields look like they may be an issue, the top three bolts came out but the bottom two are solid rust.

Couple of bodges, but not too bad so far.

Was going to get her into the sunshine for some piccies of the finished respray but the batteries were flat due to me spending so much time refitting/fettling bits with the doors open DOH. Why didn't I take the interior light bulbs out :mad::confused:
So, as it was such a nice morning I decided to paint the insides/ edges of the doors. The colour chosen was satin black which I must say has come out really well as a contrast to the body colour. The doris helped me to mask up and rub down in prep, still took us 3 hours just for 2 rattle cans. Cleaned up the door cards ready for fitting tomorrow, then we can celebrate by taking the neighbours out to a dinner dance in the evening for her 1st trip out since december.
Getting used to the colour now, really liking it. :D:p:) I'll get some piccies up tomorrow, honest.

Those heat shield bolts are a total f*cker. You might have to chisel off and wrap.

Also, when taking the steering link thingamajig out you might need someone to rock the steering wheel back and forth to get it loose so it pops off. Make sure you use only 6 point sockets etc. and they're imperial!

+1. Binned my heatshields when I did the head gaskets and heat wrapped them. I had to hammer them off with the larger of my two hammers and a cold chisel so there wasn't much left to put back on!

Mite go and adjust my steering box just done the wife's disco oh what to do when you have the day off and a running p38 with no issues lol

So thermal tape wrap is the way to go then?

Have to say that those fasteners can't last long down there, some came out but most broke or spun the threaded inserts in the inner half of the shield.

Getting the shield and exhaust off is most of the battle. Plain sailing after that.

With the rights tools maybe you don't need to touch the steering but it doesn't take long and we had to.
